Now's not the time for unforced changes. Stop ranting & keep your cool. Exactly. Not at panic stations at all. We've been ravaged by injuries and 4 games in 18 days. Last nights performance is entirely understandable and we just need to weather the storm. JKH to come in and play the same role he's been playing at Casey. If Tyson doesn't come up, ANB to spend more time in the middle, Hunt to go back and one of the small forwards to come in - either Kennedy or Johnstone.
DemonLad5 1,642 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I know I'll probably regret saying this but thank god we've got Carlton next week.
Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 An extract from a posting on the MFC site Reading between the lines it is not looking good. Even Hoges is not a lock for next week. COACH Simon Goodwin says it’s too early to tell how serious co-captain Jack Viney’s foot injury is, which he injured against the Sydney Swans at the MCG on Friday night. The courageous Viney was unable to play out the game and it remains to be seen how much football he will miss. “He’s got some plantar fasciitis. Whether it’s a tear or a partial tear – we’ll just get that assessed,” Goodwin said after his side’s 35-point loss. “It’s not looking great for him. We’ll get a clearer picture when our medical team have a really good look at him and he has scans. “We’ll just have to wait and see. It’s disappointing again to lose another player, but once again that creates opportunity for others.” But Goodwin said key forward Jesse Hogan trained “really strongly” on Friday and was not out of the picture for Melbourne’s next match against Carlton at the MCG on Sunday, July 9. “He’s getting closer and closer and he’ll have to do a really strong week of training this week and we’ll assess him as we go,” he said. “If it’s not next week, it’ll definitely be the week after [against the Adelaide Crows in Darwin], but we’re hopeful he’ll get through the rest of next week.” Goodwin said goalsneak Jeff Garlett was “close” for next round and tall Jack Watts was a “chance”.
picket fence 18,193 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Mitch White Well I got it wrong with Mitch White gee he turned it over time and again, Unfortunately not up to it. Billy Stretch, failed to go when it was his turn at one stage last night and had no presence whatsoever a boy in a mans game Jack Viney Plantar Facia problems Gee Sorry all, but they have a problem of lingering ( It could be a two month layoff if severe enough) Bugg probably out 4-6 Wagner see White ANB ? Been saying it for a while not up to it So 5 outs! Not unreasonable given my evaluation Inns Hogan, Watts, Ben Ken, Weeds and maybe just maybe Trengove! Garlett will also be in if fit!
junk 342 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Would like to see Casey D.. outcome first.Great if Smith players a blinder,JKH and Maynard do well.

Its saying a lot to me that Billy Stretch was my biggest disappointment last night. He is somewhat seasoned compared to Wagner and White, has not played 4 in 18, went back to work on his contested game. Was found wanting in at least 3 contests one where he put in very short steps. If you are going to be just outside you need to get buckets of ball or be damaging which he was so far off either.

Also think Viney might be done if injury is as bad as it can be Plantar Fascia injuries can be very long healers.

_becks_ 35 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Out: Viney, Bugg, White, Harmes In: Hogan, Garlett, Kennedy, Kent I have Maynard at Casey and he can find the ball - his disposal needs cleaning up though. But he is a inside mid, he might get a game if Tyson goes out.
Gator 18,055 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 White and Wagner showed the gulf between "knocking the door down" at Casey and a highly pressurised AFL game when you have much less time to think and execute, and less margin for error within those executions. White has looked a class above in the VFL, so I'm not critical of the selection, but he was overawed. I reckon they'll give him at least another game in Salem's absence, because it takes time to get used to the speed and tempo of AFL footy. Wagner has already shown that he can play well at the level, so it was disappointing he couldn't step up on the night.

Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 The worst thing we can do this week is to have five or six outs and replace them with Casey players. Garlett in for Bugg Hogan in for Harmes JKH in for Viney And from the under-performing players one more out for anyone who plays well at Casey BTW Wagner may have butchered the ball but he got the ball as did White. In the case of White his reputation at Casey is for good disposal so perhaps he deserves another go. If we pick Trenners his disposal will be better but will he have time and space to make that disposal

Lil_red_fire_engine 11,389 Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I will do this on the assumption that Viney and Bugg are the only forced outs and those at Casey duplicate their form of last week. In: Hogan, Garlett, JKH, Kennedy Out: Bugg, White, Viney, Stretch

I was furious with Wagner's game because he can do better. Wagner gave it up time and time again. He and White continually turned it over.Bugg punching Mills was a dumb undisciplined act especially after Houli got 4. Pederson looked cooked. That's 4 outs. I hope Goodwin makes them accountable and not gift them another game 2 redeem themselves.

Never pass up a chance to 'lay the elbows in' PD. JKH's VFL form has been great since he last played in the seniors, and this may be due to the role he's now playing, and could come in and play against Carlton. Especially if both Viney and Tyson are out. In response to the original comment, it doesn't matter that he's been dropped 3 times. Form now warrants selection again.

I'm not averse to having Kennedy-Harris back in the team, but as a mid. He's proved he's not an AFL standard forward.
leave it to deever 17,621 Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 It seems like the old saying of shuffling deck chairs on the titantic. I wouldn't mind Trenners replacing White. Got a feeling they wont play him though as the club is looking forward. Hope Im wrong. Even if Hogan comes back in, he'll be rustier than Max.
