Jimmy Stynes ... 5 years on

Only good thing to say today about Big Jim he gave everything for the Dees.

Edited by old dee

Five years! Feels like 5 months.

Ā

I remember listening to the service in the car. I hope his family are getting on with their lives.

Ā

One of the enjoyable aspects of watching those Jakovoch videos was seeing Jim in action. The guy could play.

I posted the picture of Jimma sitting with the cheer squad at the city end goals on my Facebook this morning

That is how i like to remember the big bloke.

Ā

Jimmy gave so much to this Club. Ā It's time to repay him in spades ..... starting in 2017!

gone but never forgotten , he was someone my wife looked at as inspirationalĀ Ā he gave her hope in the darkĀ days , when she beat breast cancerĀ

we watched and followed his fight , even later when she found out after a few months of being breast cancer free to be told she had terminal bowel cancer , we still hopedĀ

she like Jim fought a brave and long battle , its good to talk about this , I can't believe its 5 years for Jimmy. He loved the Dee'sĀ

I feel for his family , his friends , a great man is always missed. we never forget, they say with time its gets easier , it doesn't i can tell you that.Ā

RIP mate

Ā

Thinking of you Jimmy.Ā

When Jimmy was first brought to Melbourne he struggled a little and the club sent him off to VFA club Prahran where he played in their 1986 finals series -

Ā

The days when the VFA wasn't a shell of itself.Ā

This video had MFC all over it: Jimma, Greg Hutchison. Even Paul McNamee got a guernsey in the Swan Open ad.

First ever post on Demonland, and markc you are the reason.

My wife also looked to Jim when she had breast cancer, but after beating that beast fell to one you don't recover from, ovarian cancer, 6 months ago on the 6th

We wereĀ members of the now defunct Gold Pass when Jim came to office, got involved with the Foundation H thing etc, then as he became ill watched the wheels fall off.

Very sad.

Looking at were we are today, think the big fellow would smile and so would my wife. Ā RIP Jim.

Markc, mate I share your pain as few others on this site will. Keep strong.

Yep can't think of anyone else who got off his deathbed to keep crackin the whip !

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  IĀ  cantĀ  helpĀ  butĀ  thinkĀ  theĀ  makingĀ  ofĀ  JimĀ  intoĀ  theĀ  eliteĀ  footballerĀ  heĀ  becameĀ  wasĀ  thatĀ  dayĀ  atĀ  Waverly.Ā  HeĀ  ranĀ  acrossĀ  theĀ  markĀ  andĀ  forĀ  theĀ  restĀ  ofĀ  hisĀ  careerĀ  heĀ  overcameĀ  thatĀ  event.

Ā Ā Ā Ā  HeĀ  wouldĀ  haveĀ  becomeĀ  aĀ  greatĀ  playerĀ  withoutĀ  thatĀ  event, butĀ  heĀ  didn'tĀ  letĀ  itĀ  getĀ  theĀ  betterĀ  ofĀ  him.

BANG! I have long thought that if that was the most significant thing he did in his career, then that would be all he was remembered for.

But he went on to do a number of more significant things. Brownlow. Games record. Etc. Shows the great character of the man. I hope his kids remember him not so much as a bloke who was an AFL great, but as a man of immense character.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
