Lily got a fair bit of criticism on the Match Day thread but given the RS nomination she couldn't have been as bad as some posters thought. 

What I like about her reaction is she stayed well grounded, appreciating the honour but saying: "... I didn’t think I starred by any stretch.”   Perhaps not but you did your job for the team and helped them over the line.  Well done!  

I think she is only 19 and showing very good signs. Plenty of good times to come!

    Does anyone know the criteria for the award?  Is it open to all the players in the league (as the league has only just started) or do they need to be under a certain age?

     

    On a side note, Tayla Harris must have the most amazing kicking action of any player (man/woman/child) to have every strapped on a boot.  Every photo looks iconic.

    Any relation to Laurie Mithen, premiership player and a teacher at Melbourne High where he famously went through a whole British History lesson accidentally substituting Grand Trunk Hotel for Grand Trunk Canal? I guess he had only drunk from one of them.

    Congratulations to Lily, she wasn't perfect but never slowed down and got into everything. A likely long-term keeper with what seems like a top attitude.

    Tell you what, with only 7 rounds and such a huge number of new and young players, she must've beaten some serious competition to get the nod, good on her.

    So, who is next?

    And on the topic of individual awards, after two rounds who looks like being in the women's all-Australian, and B&F for club and league?

    I believe a grand- daughter to Laurie. Laurie was my mothers favourite player in the   50s golden era - may they return

    He wouldn't want to have said Trunk Canal too quickly - would have had the boys in fits of laughter.

    If she can play like her grandfather she will be a star. What a player Laurie Mithen was.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
