"we would have to have a ticketed game."

free day in melbourne tomorrow, so up late tonight...

player by player...

oxxx... brave at the contest in the first quarter...retired then to ring round (with great results) to bring our team up to strength...returned in the second half...good voice and counsellor to our first gamers - "NO FADE-OUT !!"...has now played in both games...a valuable veteran...

wise monkey (aka wise ass)...arrogant, belligerant, fierce at the contest...mid-field, then back-line general...led by example, and planned ahead, making suggestions and rotating the mids...couldn't catch the saints' nippy rover, but then, nobody could...barassi-like interventions at crucial times...candidate for the thinking spectator's best 3...

james (wise's mate)...quiet, disciplined, natural footballer...did his job without fuss or fanfare...a real asset to the team and a great bloke...you gotta wonder why wise deserves a mate like this...(maybe more depth to wise than appearances suggest) ;)

freak/imtoohot...not the same player, but your correspondent found them, like the febey boys, impossible to distinguish...young, blonde, athletic, skillful, the whole package...classic rovers/midfielders...if james macdonald can make it...together, number one on field...separately, candidates for BOG, but allocating stats was impossible without a zoom lens...

cribbes...our lazy, 9 foot ruckman...had no opponent this time, and dominated the centre clearances, giving us first use time and time again...played back and forward like jimmy stynes in his prime...reads the game well, good below his knees, excellant disposal by hand and foot...lots of saints' posters have him in our best 3...a real factor in their second loss to us in a row...

tom (robbo's mate)...solid, dependable, no-nonsense sort of player...short of a run (like most) but obviously knows his way around a footy field...a real asset (thanks, robbo)...

hards...light build is more than made up for by fierce determination and will to win...has manfully battled injuries to make it onto the field in both forum games...100% record as captain-coach...leads by example and leaves it to wise to say the obvious...

robbo24...injured early, robbo is the ultimate team player, having convinced cribbes to play again, tom to come down, and scotty to leave the gym and join the fray...robbo's talents were sadly cut short this game...we will have to wait to see those carefully-crafted behinds...how's the knee, mate ??

cactus...a russell robertson-like performance...7 goals, and 4 of them in the priemiership quarter !!...injured before last game (when he skillfully managed the bench as goober13)...great skill at finding space and time in heavy traffic...accurate shot for goal...definate candidate for best 3...

diesel...older poster carrying injury...would have been happy not to play if the youngsters who promised had turned up...put in 4 solid quarters (as all had to do with no bench), laid lots of tackles and put in many one percenters...inspirational goal in the first quarter...score one for the old men on site !!

melbournefc...shot out of the blocks with two early goals in the first quarter...thereafter, the sainters paid him close attention, easing the pressure on scotty and cactus...broke through for his third goal in the final quarter...definite asset...brought friends who took quality photos, so very definite asset...

the stynes factor...without the chookers (who will probablt turn up next sunday), it was good to have a carrot-top in the team...co-ordinated (in a chooker sort of way), team-oriented and fierce at the ball and the man, tsf summed up for me why the dees would not yield the day...he was not going to stop running and he was not there to lose...epitome of the team player...loved your work, mate...

doggo24...great exponent of the contested mark, we should try to get this bloke off the fags and halfway fit...doggo was threatening (after a few drinks) to get back into competitive footy...hope you find the motivation, son...some of those marks were pure gold...

scotty...another of robbo's mates...shared the forward-line honours with cactus and hards...good lead, sure hands, lovely set-shot for goal...heard robbo's call and rushed down to plat without footy boots !!...a real candidate for best 3 and genuine contender for BOG with 5 goals and multiple assists...

oxxx's rugby mate...sorry I mised the name...came down to help on oxxx's call...could be useful if he learns the rules...inventive hand-passes gave the sainters a few free kicks, but...built like a brick [censored]-house, no sainter seemed to want to pick him up...thanks, mate...

the babies...according to wise, these ankle-biters were scotty's little brother and his mate...boy, can they play...happy they were not run down by any gorillas ( we might have been sued !!)...these kids did the red and blue proud, filling in in the second half and showing superb footy skills for their age...

the fill-ins...how embarassing, the sainters had to loan us 2 players at the start to help us field a team...both tried so hard, I had to wonder...as our ranks filled (thanks to robbo and oxx) the sainters asked for these guys back and they refused !!...turns out one of them (at least) was not a saints supporter, and they stayed with the winning team...thanks, guys...

the missing...davey_magic, brey9186, giro, dalrot, neitstar, chief demon, pringle, demondomination, jimi9, chooker, the chook factor, madness...guys, we understand if things happened that meant you could not come...we don't understand why you did not warn us...I know 3 posters who did not offer to play because our bench was so full...please don't do this to us next time...

the unavailable...just to mention a few...

dazzledavey36, no more promises, dd...if you are playing next time, say so and do it, mate...think february, 2007...

sleeve...looking forward to seeing you injury-free, mate...

riv...we need your class if the sainters bring their gun players next time...

finks and scatter...no cricket madness in the lead-up next time, please...

I reckon that we have to give CAC and crew a heads up about Scotty's little brother; He's going to be a gun!

Great game guys, just like the elimination final but far more rewarding ;) I am still feeling it today sunburn and muscle strains all over but ill be ready and firing for our next game so we can kill another team. Great job guys and thanks to Rollo for his match report and help on the day.

Thanks for the good wrap on my performance Rollo. Hopefully I can come out next time and kick a few more. I'll make sure the entourage come along too so they can take some more action packed snaps. :)

Which one of the guys in the photo are you mate?

Don't even mention the sunburn! I got a double dose, thanks to playing Corporate Games all day Sat then got baked again on Sunday!

Rollo, The bloke who I brought along was named Kura.

Next time the interchange bench shouldn't be an excuse for people not turning up; to be honest I wouldn't care if we ended up with a bench of 20. With it being a game organised over the internet, it's understandable if some people aren't able to log onto a computer a couple of days before & state that they can't make it. Next time we should give out a couple of contact mobile numbers & tell everybody to print out a sheet of the details so that there are no excuses if people miss out.

& to those who didn't/weren't able to make it down, just think that it could have been you in the photo wearing a Melbourne jumper with the cup.

Ladies & Gents, I am happy to inform you that I have posted my stirring rendition of the Melbourne footy club song "Grand Old Flag" on YouTube!

Check it out, rate it high and make this one a winner!

Enjoy Boys!

Well done boys-- enjoyed that :D

I'm still disappointed that I couldn't make it - I was drinking it up on a beach holiday at the time - but I definitely want to get my hands of 'Big Carl' sometime soon.

I'm still sore as... but yeah, that was heaps of fun and good to get a big win and be... THE undisputed inter-forum champs... challengers welcome... ;)

Anyway, gotta cut this one quick, but just wanted to thank everyone involved for a great day... Alot of hard work must've gone into the day, but it was well worth it. And that rendeition of Grand Old Flag... ohhh, brought a tear to my eye! haha

I look forward to the next game! Bring it on...

Cheers,

Chris

P.S. robbo24, hope the knees alright mate.

I'm still sore as...

So am I!

The stairs at work are killing me. Spent all Sunday night getting fluid down (beer/water... probably more beer than water to be honest...) but kept getting the cramping legs.

Now its just the aches and pains from the leg muscles - two games in six years will do that to you!!

I know what u mean man... had to walk up the stairs like 5 times today at work (not to mention the stairs at home), and i was taking every step very very carefully & slowly... by the 5th time i was walking like a geriatric...i'd been ignoring the tightness and pain the first coulple of times and trying to walk normally, but the the end i could no longer just hide my discomfort...i looked like needed a walking frame! people were looking at me funny.

Nice to know i'm not alone in excruitiating agony...

wise.. thanks for the avatar mate..

I don't know what's dorkier - a bunch of guys having some fun & playing the sport that they love, or somebody sitting behind a computer screen bagging out a bunch of total strangers.

All in good humour I'm sure Oxxx. I've heard people call Neita a dork.

It is ironic though coming from a guy who calls himself SPUD DULLARD. :D

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
