Pre-season Training

Anyone have any idea when it starts? I see some of the guys have been doing some stuff already.

I'm really interested to see how the rookie Maynard goes.

I believe we are absolutely burning up the track and it is the hardest preseason we have ever done.

Went past Gosch's this morning. Billy Stretch, Bugg, Mitch White all doing some hard running under eye of Misso and Viney.

Crossy there too with another guy I have seen him running with a bit recently. Not a listed player. Very solid, blond hair. Wonder if it is a rookie prospect they are putting some time in to.

Thanks swooper.  Keep what you see coming.  I think the younger ones come back to start in another week.

The blonde guy could be Maynard, when I spoke to him at training looked pretty solid

Training starts Nov 15 I think

We've moved on from using different numbers and we're now dyeing their hair... Such footy department advancements!

Maybe it's just me, but do you really see this bloke going blonde?

Might be Josh Green, Stuart?  Pretty easy to go from ranga to white, with the assistance of peroxide.

Would also help his chances of getting on our list due to the "2 ranga maximum" allowance we have.

Probably not, but with a mullet he would look a bit similar to Roos in his Lions days.

Hope he can play. Another basketballer Joel Smith, could be a real find.

Wearing a hat...must be bald.

I thought the AFL took a dim view, like everything, of draft prospects training with clubs without permission, hence why I thought it might be Maynard, too interested in his guns to notice the hair colour?????

All jokes aside, there are pictures and reports all over the net with the players  hard at work already, think Roos last message sank in

Not necessarily, Saty, it might be just that the expectations of being an AFL footballer are sinking in.

Which was the message Roos left them with, also helped by the fact competition for spots will be fierce

I don't think it's something that is exclusive to MFC players.  I'm sure most players from opposition teams work hard in their "time off", it's just something that we're not used to seeing with many of our players.

Roos' message was just as much about reinforcing what it takes, as much as it was believing/reassuring that we have the players required, to take us to a premiership contender.

Would love to know what training Killer Watts is doing in LA.

Petracca is still on the Bintangs over in Bali with only a couple of weeks until PS training starts.

Should've got his beer drinking over with weeks ago.

What's the bet he comes back out of shape and behind the standard expected?

$1

As one who has consumed the odd Bintang I can tell you it is hard to drink faster than you can sweat in Bali. I reckon my arms had a nice foamy head at times. So no problems for Petracca, he'll come back mean and lean and ready to go.

He has been training, although you wouldn't know by the photos, mentioned a couple running sessions

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
