FA & Trade Whispers

I'm getting burnt to a crisp in Bali on my honeymoon and couldn't thank you enough to all the posters contributing to this thread with rumours, whispers, possible trade deals and draft pick possibilities - no matter what happens I've loved the entertainment and the hope that this period brings.

The last few years I've felt desperate during this period for news of a star joining us but it's always felt a bit far fetched with where our team was at.

But we now have a solid core group of professional and talented players that are set on a journey towards some form of growth and success that I can believe in the possibility of A grade players joining us to make the team even better.

Cant wait to see what the next few days brings. I remember when there was a heap of speculation about the possibility of Paul Roos joining us and to me it just felt right. All the talk of Dangerfield / Parker / Treloar / Kennedy / Shuey over the past few years never felt real enough to me but this time around - with Lewis, Rocky and Hibberd - it feels like a real possibility and hope the Dees can pull it off.

In Taylor / Mahoney / Goodwin we trust!

I also trust McCartney and Viney!

Stick fat fella. My information contradicts yours, but I don't doubt you posted with the best intentions and confident it was happening.

Some posters battle at life. Their existence doesn't facilitate access to successful people. The fact you have contacts in the footy industry is bewildering to them.

Don't let the opinions of nuffies get you down.

I have a bad feeling that Rockliff to us would turn out to be Brisbane's revenge for Travis Johnstone and Brent Moloney.

On the Lewis and Hibberd potential trades, I'm quietly pleased and confident it would work out well.

Why would they want revenge when we have them Steph Martin? ?

Sorry to hear that 'Generation'....

The message inbox is no place for vitriol, nor is this forum for that matter.

It's fine mate, I'm big enough and ugly enough to take it. Posters such as yourself, ProDee and Redleg etc are the reason I post, and will continue to. As I've said, just lucky to have a large network. We are all just here for the same reason- we love the dees and love our footy.

For what it's worth, outside of the dees, I've heard a few rippers- st Kilda throwing some absolute zingers around. Fishing everywhere for a class midfielder. Martin, Salem wines, Heeney, swallow amd shuey. More so planting seeds for next trade period I hear.

I think it's much needed. Stevens is class. Acres looks like a prospect, but they do lack the class we seem to have in Oliver, Salem, Brayshaw and Petracca.

Haha, tell them to go jump GD. Takes a bit of gumption to put up details like you did. Fingers crossed it all falls into place, not for your good name mind, for the good of the Dee's. :)

Probably the last link for them, they look strong up front, good depth and getting Carlisle back solidifies the defence. If they had a 25 year old montagna now they would be looking really good.

Yeah, they've built their list amazingly well without the access to talent that we've had. They've obviously drafted well, developed well and Richardson's a top coach. Not sure his game style will take them all the way though.

Take Riewoldt out of that forwardline and it's an inexperienced one. He makes them far more unpredictable, but he won't be around forever.

I think they're marginally ahead of us because Riewoldt and Montagna have stuck around as long as they have. If Armitage goes, I reckon that'll weaken them significantly, as he gives their younger guys and Stevens a good chop out in the middle. Depends who they replace him with though.

I've been out of the loop, why are people mad at Generation dee for posting the Rockliff information?

Some have posted contrary views, or info and some are concerned he was a bit loose with his sources.

Vegan Pottery and others have been on his back because he a) either had confidential info and passed it on (naming where he got it in the process) or b) made up the rumour.

Here you go:

A bit more today:-

AR: BA who do we need more Lewis or Rockliff or are we in for both now??

BA: yet to confirm rockliff link

M: surely Melb can't get rocky. Only have second round this year or next to offer. Lynden Dunn = steak knives

BA: Lions would let him go for 2nd.

Meanwhile Robbo on Twitter

Speculation about Rocklff to Melbourne unfounded (at this stage). Lions not heard from Demons. Looming he stays a Lion...

The boy just yelled out that Tippett is interested now???

Please don't shoot the messenger....can anyone confirm or deny??

Only if Swans cover a fare bit of cash that he might want.

Think the Tipp one is the least founded.. Well Lewis has legs, Rocky doubtful, Tippet well hell who knows but it hasn't been "confirmed by a source" anywhere J.

Cheers, Cards.....I'll tell him to get back to his Uni assignment! :)

The article on Lewis also mentioned that the Hawks are, potentially, going to trade Hartung and Whitecross to the Lions for Pick 21, which they will then on trade with Pick 10 for O'Meara.

No pressure on the new boys at all...

Also from Robbo:-

Lewis rejects Suns, set to join Demons

Manyana or even tonight?

"EXCLUSIVE: HAWTHORN vice-captain Jordan Lewis has rejected a proposed move to the Gold Coast to help facilitate the Jaeger O’Meara"

My translation is - Hawks to Lewis:  "we don't really want you to stay and not only are we pushing you out to get this young gun, JO'M in, on money you could only dream of, just be a good lad now and agree to go to GCS (not the Demons) so we can get JO'M here quick smart!

That adds insult to injury, for mine.  Hawks certainly can't block the trade to the Dees after that!

Sounds like that deal may break down though I read somewhere else.

You may be right mate.  I should have said the article mentioned this deal 'could' happen, not that it will.

Here:  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-16/trade-wrap-motlop-set-to-stay-at-cattery

"The proposed deal that would send Hawks Billy Hartung and Brendan Whitecross to the Brisbane Lions for one of the Lions' early second-round picks, No.16, No.19 or No.21, is no closer to being finalised and could fall over...The clubs still can't agree on elements of the deal, and one source close to the negotiations expected the proposed trade would be abandoned, a turn of events that would further complicate the Hawks' negotiations with Gold Coast on Jaeger O'Meara".

Quite amazing if Hawks lose Mitchell and Lewis, take a huge whack in their PR and supporter backlash, then not get there BIG FISH, JO'M.

While its fun to watch the Hawks reputation as smart operators getting a bit tarnished, I'm sad for O'Meara.  He is the meat in the sandwich.

Don't feel bad for him, what he's doing isn't all that different to T$. He's played 27 games in 4 seasons (T$ had played 31 in 2). He isn't going home for personal reasons, he's going interstate for money or success. He hasn't done enough in AFL terms to be able to demand where he goes.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
