Will making the 2016 finals hinder our prep for 2017 season?

You've clearly not read any of my posts Chookrat - hurtful.

Another advantage of finishing 9th is having an easier draw for 2017.

But the benefit of finals outweighs any valid reason.

You finish outside the 8, u get a better draw the following year.

Do u even afl?

Firstly, there's no guarantee or rule which says 9th gets an "easier" fixture than 8th. The AFL currently does fixturing by using three groups of 6. The second band is teams 7-12. So both 8th and 9th fall into that band (which dictates which clubs we get twice in 2017).

Secondly, making the finals this year will almost certainly mean we get a Friday night game next year. That is immensely important for our club.

Finally, every year some clubs do better or worse than expected. At the time the fixture came out, any club which had Fremantle twice would have considered that a tough draw but it turned out to be a goldmine.

So in no way do I see any fixturing advantage to finishing 9th.

Whew! Lucky we dodged that bullet. It was a close one though.

Couldn't even handle one game with finals on the line, what a shocker.

Finals have been on the line for us since the Hawthorn game. We basically played in a Preliminary Final today…or something.

Well it won't upset the post season holiday plans for the players anymore.

Or the coach

Who even started this thread and why ?? Focus on winning a game and let the chips fall where they may. 2017 should be a better year for us and we have learnt lessons from our shortcomings this year. Will reaching the finals hinder our prep for 2017 ??? Are you bloody well kidding ??

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
