Finding this interview with Jack's dad a little bit sad. More than a few home thruths about where the club's been, the mistakes we've made, and hardly the gushing platitudes and PR spin you usually hear.

Refreshing, actually.

Yes very interesting listening.

"They all want me to be Chris Judd. I'm not Chris Judd" re: debut/Neeld days.

I hope he can bag a few today - Jack's a great example of resilience and loyalty.

Can you elaborate a bit mate? As in what he had to say about our previous coaches and football department. I can kind of guess what it might be, but still, if you have time it would be great to read more about it.

Hopefully the podcast will go up on their website because it was great but melancholic listening.

Andrew seems like a really deep thinker about the game. He lamented why Jack's found it hard to perform with the changing style of AFL footy. All his attributes when drafted (skill with the ball) changed when Worsfold and Roos turned the game into a heavily contested, "Rugby style" affair, which simply was never in Jack's nature, making it hard for him to adjust once drafted.

Referred to how godawful our scoring was last year (lowest in 70 years or something) and how often we kick it on Dawes' head when he has 3 players hanging off him, all the while Watts is free but ignored. How previous coaching groups kept telling him to be "like Chris Judd," but Jack kept saying he didn't want to be Chris Judd, he wanted to be Jack Watts.

Caro said how horrible his debut game must have been to watch, which Andrew immediately corrected by saying it was fantastic to see his son play AFL regardless of what happened. Praised the club drafting another similarly extroverted player in Petracca, who is always positive, loves making friends and being the life of the party.

No one on Demonland plays for the Dees either. Guess you shouldn't care what anyone here has to say, either.

I'd like to know what was said in the interview. It would've been refreshing to hear someone describing what happened behind closed doors without the [censored] PR spin.

EDIT: Thanks for that SaberFang. Interesting listening.

Thanks mate, much appreciated! I reckon I'll try and catch that podcast when it goes up, sounds like it is well worth the listen!

I enjoyed the interview but the timing of it was wrong. Andrew was asked questions that he tried to expand on, but because it was 30 minutes before the game, it seemed that the panel was trying to make it a bit "punchier" by cutting him off with more questions.

No-ones fault I guess, but it seemed me there were no one word answers for the questions rasied.
