ESSENDON VFL v CASEY SCORPIONS

Featured Replies

4.8 to 4.4 Caseys way at half time. Defended well against the breeze but never looked like scoring. Oliver, Garland and Michie pick of the players but a lot of play on other side of ground and in tight so  hard to get a true gauge.

must've been a heavy hit!

having a big case of the second year blues.

ANB kicked the ball flat out into the back of his head when he was probably 2-3 metres away.

HT Just 4 points in it after a good start but inaccurate kicking in the windy conditions saw them pegged back late in the half.

Casey Scorpions 4.8.32 to Essendon 4.4.28

Goals - Hulett, King, Neal-Bullen, Garland

Disposals - Michie 17, Stretch 16, White 14, Oliver 14

Clearly, not only does ANB want to get into the Seniors next week, but he wants to make sure Gus doesn't get there instead of him...!!

Is Brayshaw actually concussed? Off the ground? Done for the day?

2nd head knock in a month means he will be resting for at least a week no?

Stretch's numbers surprising but has played the far side most of game so I must be missing a lot.

Hows Trengove and Nibbler going mate?

Time to bring White in also impresses me greatly!

Trengove playing in the middle. Getting his hands on it but slow to execute. Not ready in my view and would prefer to see him on a wing. ANB has done some good but a lot of play on other side has meant he has not been that noticeable .

First time I have heard that this weekend

Just got here after being at work. Rawlins and Goodwin in the stands. Hope they are watching closely.

Casey radio van is here too but I didn't bring radio. You might be able to listen on that. 97.3 I think.

Yep it's on Casey Radio 97.7

That BRFE! Loving the commentary from the team at demonland. How is the Spence v Jamar battle going?

5 goal lead at 3 qtr time but with the wind really makes it close to an even money bet, spencer has been serviceable for a first game back and appears to have played limited minutes as expected. Will be posting less as batteries running low.

3Qtr Time Stats Disposals - Michie 25, Stretch 24, Oliver 20 Goals - Wilson 2, Garland, Hulett, King, Michie, Neal-Bullen, Newton, Spencer 1

Casey 9.11 to Ess 5.5. They have to close the gap by 5 goals in the last qtr. The wind is a huge advantage but I'm guessing it's too big a gap for bummers to close.

Spencil has been rotating on and off the field very regularly with Max King in the ruck. Neither is resting forward. Spencil looks good and mobile but this is a big test off match fitness.

From what little I've seen Spencil is holding his own, but King is out-rucked. I'm not convinced that is his best position.

Gawn and Dunn are here watching.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
