Not only did we just smash out all time membership record we are now starting to put on a consistent performance each week. It is exciting and i have self belief that we are finally set for the next couple of years with some success.

These two will be forever indebted to the Melbourne Football club for the mountain of hardwork thats been put in and we are now starting to hopefully see the rewards.

I should also note the development team led Brendan McCartney. To see players like Gawn and Viney borderline elite is something this side hasn't had since probably the Lyon Flower days..

Its a good time to be a Melbourne supporter.

.....and make sure we do what we can to keep the recruiting team/scouting system. They have brought some real talent into the club, not all of it obvious.

Peter Jackson has brought high standards across the whole organisation.  It is becoming a destination club not just for players but assistant coaches and adminstrators.  Sponsorship will follow and everything will reinforce on field success.  He will go down as one of the off field greats of the MFC.

at the end of 2015 i spoke to an opposition player who is a good family friend who was targeted by the MFC, the trade didn't end up eventuating but it was amazing the way our clubs image has changed to opposition clubs, no teams go into a game against the MFC anymore taking it lightly, if we played Hawthorn next weekend we'd back ourselves to win.

Roosy on 3aw mentioned that he would still like a part time role at the club after he finishes but obviously thats not the main focus now.

? For presenting them with such a complete ruin of a club that they had a rare opportunity to mould us from the very ground up?

PJ has been correct in everything he has said so far. He was in Roosy's ear for 6 months. 

I have high hopes Roosy will still be involved with the MFC next year and beyond in some form, when the Cup is raised i want Roosy there.

Those who have identified issues with the list and those who have had a hand in building it deserve a big pat on the back.

Strongest list we have had for a very long time.

Good clubs have emerging rookies and low picks, they also identify under-appreciated commodities from other clubs.  We are now doing this well.

I'd like to think it's more than just a couple of years.

Yes, they've done some hard yards, but IMO the hard work is only just starting. And it is indeed an exciting time to be a Melbourne supporter.

Do not rest, keep ticking boxes, keep recruiting, keep the development resources high, because the doors will now start to open as a destination club.

I'm not sure that it's best for Goodwin or the club if Roos remains in a part-time capacity, as well as having a full-time media role. It puts Goodwin in a no-win situation. If the team is winning, credit to Goodwin will be diminished, because they still see Roos in the background. If the team is playing poorly, Roos will constantly be asked about it, and I doubt that he'd accept any responsibility.

He will take a part time role as advisor to recruiting/drafting/development

I think it's more likely this sort of thing than within the footy department as I think Roos would understand that Goodwin needs to have clear air to take control of the team.  Having someone looking over your shoulder wouldn't be helpful.

But would he want that sort of non FD role?  I don't know.  I wonder how he really feels.  I'm not doubting his effort or intent but he was a Swans player and a wonderful Swans coach and you can't help feeling his heart would understandably still be there.  Whether we like it or not he wouldn't have come to us without a large financial inducement and while I think it's been a great investment by Jackson how all that fits together in the future is anyone's guess.

I can see him in a development role working with the new recruits, or even academy players once we have one. It keeps him well away from Goodwin and any discomfort that could cause, but keeps his knowledge at the club. He worked with the swans academy part time before he came to us I think, a similar role could work.

Only time will tell but my feeling is that it my have proved to be the "line in the sand" for this group.  The feeling is that we won't stand for that carp any more.  Apart from the first quarter against Norf we have delivered

I disagree about it being only at our club; after all the term was coined in modern parlance by Hawthorn against Essendrug all those years ago.  It just seems more exclusively ours because we have had so many lines in the sand before.  This does seem different this time.

I should add that I am and always will be a hopeless optimist

Maybe some sort of welfare role with him and Tammy that look after newnrecruits from interstate/country.

Bit like what the Lamberts did at GWS and nor Brisbane.

They could all bunk at his mansion.

No it is only at our club that a loss to Essendon had to be The game. 

Every other club will smash them...

One more year of his involvement in drafting, on top of the one at the end of this year, will set us up very very well.

I will reserve judgement, as I have always said, until the end of the year. We win 10 (or more) then I would say Roosy has done his job; the job being to take a shell of a football club and make it respectable again.
I will say thanks to both PJ and Roos in bringing stability to admin. and with it, a greater focus on the on field product. With decent heads of recruiting, development and on the commercial aspect of things, where can our senior players hide if they put in a howler? Nowhere really. PJ and Roos have bought that to the club and it's the first time in nearly 25 years that we have inhabited that kind of headspace. Ever since about 1996, all I can remember is constant turmoil: board stoushes, salary cap and tanking scandals, merger talks, botched sponsorships and idiotic marketing campaigns and/or gimmicks. For taking us away from that, they should be congratulated.
With that being said, I will also say thanks to someone else who should get a small level of thanks (though clearly his contribution isn't as great as PJ's or PR's) and believe it or not, it's Don McLardy. No, I'm not going to point to say how Debt Demolition saved the club as the basis for the small amount of gratitude that I feel but it should be noted that after round 2, 2003, Don made a call that many others at our club never did. Don realized that the club, under his board's leadership and under the leadership of it's previous management team, was bleeding badly and if swift action wasn't taken then the bleeding might be fatal. While many others may have waited to be carried out of the join by others or to find a mutually agreeable successor (i.e. one that comes from the same old money networks and won't say bad things about you after you leave), Don realized that the old guard of  the MFC would not  and could not clean up the mess that they had created. He therefore swallowed his pride and turned the club over to the AFL and Peter Jackson.
Others in the past haven't taken responsibility for what has gone wrong at our club. Club presidency was never his go (though it was largely forced on him) but Don did.

Not one iota of turmoil or even any murmurings of it since Roos and PJ took over operations.

The new board must be doing a fine job too. In fact I cant even name one person on the current MFC board which is a very good thing in my opinion.
