I think a big tell is that we kept 34 available, we took a 33 year old back up ruckman, we drafted mids and a 194 cm journeyman, back up ruck forward pocket and we didn’t take another key back, a position Kalani also plays.

We didn’t draft or trade in another young ruckman or key defender, areas of need in the coming few years.

That suggests at least, that he or someone else of that type, has given us a commitment to join the Dees.

Then again!

I think a lot of signs point towards him coming to the Dees, not to mention:

1. His Dad is a legend of the club

2. Gold Coast have a lot of talls already locked in for the long term like Walter, King, Andrew, Read & Moyle. He definitely has a better chance with us to lock down a spot early.

3. The changes in free agency point allocations and also restrictions to number of players available if GC make the finals (big if), means that he would still have uncertainty if he picks the GC. They have 2 other highly touted academy players from my understanding.

herald sun reporting him as 204cm 😱

This has been discussed ad nauseum.  He's 200cm.  A while back, a reporter - Sam Edmund - incorrectly converted 6'7'' to cm, another journalist repeated the radio comments in print, and here we are.

I have a small claim to fame here. His grandad was a rep and I was a client. We got talking that Jeff was wanting to come back to Victoria. The conversation came to Ricky Nixon who I played basketball with. His grandad asked if I thought he was a good agent. I said, yes but know a better one. Ron Joseph. I contacted Ron and he soon took over as his agent and Ron organised the deal to Melb. His grandfather, Gary is a lovely bloke as I am sure Geoff is. Really think we have a beauty with the grandson. Geoff was unbeatable on his day.

I read that Kalani will be playing more forward this season. That of course is wait and see.

Let’s see if he can roost one from 50 on the boundary with seconds to go to give us the lead against the doggies

Was worried 6m ago but right now it’s all pointing our way that’s for sure. Jeff has become much more vocal on dees lately and 34 literally has his name on it.

Things change but there’s no doubt he loved time at club & that he’s leaning towards his dads legacy and the team he no doubt adores and GC depth at ruck and key def DEFINITELY plays, albeit Witt’s getting on but Moyle is as certain an incumbent as there is!

My own view is 75-25 atm but again things change and his GC time might blow his mind and pull of the beach he’s accustomed too may win out who knows!

I still reckon he gave us a verbal prior to last year's draft. No intel, just a feeling.

The fact he signs his name as Kalani34 is good enough for me. If he does choose GC I’ll lose my cool.

🆒 lost

Does he use red and blue pens to sign?

He's incredibly slight. I'm more in the 3 years before he plays. His kidney's are going to get sick of protein powders that for sure.

not necessarily

look at sam darcy and mac andrew - similar beanpoles that have been able to be afl-ready by the second, third year at the latest

announced on pravda today that the '2 nga picks if you make finals' has been rolled back; four available for the franchises regardless of whether or not they make finals

lol sounds like the AFL. The amount of rule-making on the run is incredible.

I assume the changes in points per pick still stays though? Which would make it hard for GC or GWS to match 3-4 players inside say top 20 or so.

In any case, still confident White chooses us but this does make me slightly more nervous…

Yep going from 2 to 4 with finals was part of the points allocation change I assume

Opinion.

Next thing that AFL will do just for a ‘year trial’ is to allow nga pick matches to F/S.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
