really ?? just failed the no DH test id have thought !!

They'd know this kid like the back of their hand by now.

If they were committed to using P3 or P7 on him this incident won't change things.

If he was 50/50 with another player they may go the other player.

This incident doesn't phase me and I won't be judging his character on one reported incident.

Im just mulling over who the club has drafted in recent years... The type...the character..

Curnow reminds me of...........no one...just saying

I hate it when we judge 18 year old character but this is not good for him and while I would still pick on footballing ability, the information on the 'back of the Recruiters hand' just got updated with drink driving on your Ps while running a red late at night...

You can "just say" anything you like, but I don't know why you'd bother when you have the massive sample size of .... wait for it .... one. Do you always jump to conclusions in such a fashion ?

I get you want mids, but don't use this incident to propel your argument.

recruiters just washed hands !!

However, if you were in Jason Taylor's shoes and knew who your first pick was going to be, there are only five possible combinations possible. It would take some luck but the odds are reasonable for you to achieve the best case scenario i.e getting your two most preferred players from the six into the club.

If each player is equally likely to be picked at the next 3 picks before ours then I make the minimum probability:

0.80 x 0.75 x 0.67 = 0.40 that we'd get our guy at pick 7 (each of those probabilities are the probability of not picking our guy from that set at that pick)

The probability is actually better than that because Essendon and Gold Coast may select any other player, not just from that set, at their picks

oh ...nicely done there.. lets distract to a corner over there... really..

I , like other s were just discussing the merits of Curnow... can you do that too

Whos jumping to a conclusion...Im stating an opinion. You really just dont like it Ben when anyone supports something you don;t get over it .

So lets dispense with the straw...and back to Curnow. Yes he's 18...they often make silly decisions. He's in a position where he's being groomed to play footy at the highest level. He should have his wits about him, seems he's forgotten 50 % of them.

Did you actually address my point ? No

Recent drafts have been about recruiting kids with their heads firmly planted on their shoulders. Their disposition has been professional towards their immediate futures. They're swtiched on.

Curnow strikes me as a bit of an idiot. That he does this..and gets done for it makes this reader/writer immediately start to think what other stupid things might he have done that he hasn't been caught for ?

The Saints are already ruing taking Carlisle. Why would you knowingly do the same. Its about the person not his playing position. Too much of a reach for you ?

agree jack

but what if the remaining 5 all (or some) commit a curnow-like indiscretion between now and tuesday

unlikely i know but it could shift the dynamics and hence the possibilities

Drink driving is stupid, I've never done it but I have lost my licence for speeding before when I was younger - also got done running a red light (not at an intersection) and no Ps at the same time. It was stupid but it didn't define my character.

Surely that's all in keeping with being a Dr Gonzo. Not relevant. :)

Interesting that Paige Cardona doesn't even know we have pick 7 not 10.

10 effectively though 10th pick... 7 live

What probably adds to the silliness, is allowing it to happen just before the ND.

Better before than after

One kid weighs 73 kg wet and the other can play forward or midfield and is 90 plus kgs I know who I would take we took skinny kids Cook, Strauss and Blease wait to they develop they told us stars in the making add Gysberts to that list as well no more jockeys!!!

Have a look at the bloke in your profile picture.

Weight means far less than whether they can play.

I was at the club's trade and draft evening with Jason Taylor and Todd Viney and while there was a great deal of discussion concerning a variety of the matters relating to the club, I don't think anyone went away any the wiser about who the club is drafting at #3.

We were shown highlight tapes of six players who the club presumably considers would be available within its range of picks #3 and #7. They are:

Charlie Curnow,

Aaron Francis,

Wayne Milera,

Clayton Oliver,

Darcy Parish and

Sam Weideman.

I would suggest then that we will draft two of those players next Tuesday night and while the club has made up its mind as to who will be taken at 3, nobody is telling. Nor are they telling the player involved because they want the player to enjoy the occasion.

So, the suspense continues although watching the highlights passage and combined with the more detailed games I've seen in the past, confirms in my mind that Darcy Parish is our best pick. My next two would be Aaron Francis and Charlie Curnow ahead of Clayton Oliver and Wayne Milera. I don't believe Sam Weideman is for us.

Anyway, we'll know soon enough.

I think this deserves another look.

The thing is, if this is our 6, there may well be only two of them left by the time of pick 7 (or 10 if you prefer).

For example, if we take Parish at 3, Bummers take, say, Weideman & Curnow, Suns take Oliver, that leaves us Milera & Francis. Maybe they're good, but they're not the type of player we need & I'm not the only one who'd be surprised if we picked up either of them because no mock draft has us even considering them. So giving them two spaces in our top 6 seems odd?

On the other hand, we seem not to be looking at another potential tall-forward-second-ruck in Harry McKay. Or any mids other than Parish & Oliver, who will both be gone before pick 7/10. I hope they are looking a bit more broadly outside this 6.

It will be Pick 10 after the academy bids. Pay attention mate.

It's hard to concentrate when there is so much crap and fighting on here.

I agree.

Some might argue that he played in a different era, but Robbie's abilities would still translate to the modern game as well. You play the hand you are given and Robbie turned that deck into a royal flush. Someone like Gysberts barely turned it into a two pair.

If Parish has the drive coupled with the ability then he'll make it.

I'm seeing Parish's pace being listed by many as a much needed strength despite his combine testing only being average. Based purely on the footage he appears more in the Jack Viney mould in that his outside run and carry speed is only fair but he has pretty good acceleration and his first 6 or 7 steps breaking away from stoppages is pretty handy. Can those who've seen him in the flesh comment on his speed?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
