Don't take offence, but if I needed advice on football you'd be the last person I'd contact.

If I need advice on drinking I'll be in touch.

No offence taken, brother (or is that sister?)

Either way, one outta two aint bad.

A non sequitur statement.

I wouldn't expect anything less.

depends whether it suits your argument. Would you say Viney and Hogan getting 2nd and 4th in the BnF are good signs for their future?

I'm actually pro-Watts, but there is no getting around the fact that 7 seasons to produce a 9th and a 10th in the BnF is pretty bloody average. Particularly when you consider how bloody awful we have been for most of that time, awful enough for most of the blokes in that picture to get a high result.

But when Watts got 10th in the MFC B&F, NicNat got 9th in the West Coast B&F in that same year. It is easy to adopt selective use of statistics to bolster any argument (pro or anti) so l am wary of many comparisons made on this site.

Except the reference to the Salem and Watts B&F finishes were the most minor part of my post.  It was included at the end as an aside.

That said, a second year player finishing higher than a 7th year player from half the games played is telling, even to a fool; especially when said 7th year player had been dropped twice during the season.  Btw, this was a 7 win season, not a 2 win spoon season, meaning the results of the B&F had increased merit.

Talk about doe-eyed dolts.

I completely agree with you which is why l didn't use a 2 win season in my post.

discussing 7 years of BnF placings is not 'selective use of statistics'. What better measurement device could you possibly use?

and wtf is talking about niknat ffs

But I'm not saying Watts is anything better than average, that's the point. It's this same old "spud or star" mentality of Demonland, Watts is just a good average player, I know that's hard to accept for the "but it's been 7 seasons" brigade who want the number 1 pick back, but let's live in reality hey?

Viney finished ahead of Jones in the Bluey despite playing 6 less games, so I guess poor old Nate is done too, better ship him off asap if we're using "ProDee's" logic.

Viney, 3rd season, 16 games - 2nd in the BnF.

Jones, 10th season, 22 games - 5th in the BnF.

I'm gonna follow through with your logic and assume this means you want the captain booted out too....

I tell you what...

I'll change my avatar to Binman's choice for 6 months from the day he plays his 11th game (won't happen) and you can dictate my signature for the corresponding period.

...ahem..

I'm guessing this is one bet you won't mind losing PD.

Glad he's stepped up and vindicated me.

He's still not playing as consistently as I'd like, but he's embarrassed everyone that has accepted his rubbish for years.

I said I wanted 40 goals in 2016 and he's well on the way to doing it.  I knew it was in him, which is why I set that particular benchmark.

I look forward to my new sig.

Thought that was an excellent grab.

I think for a long time many posters have said the Watts is a cream on top player, he will rise with others around him but probably struggle to be in games that others aren't great in.

This isn't a criticism of him, there are many players that have been and gone in the game who are the same and the good news is as we continue to rise I feel like he will too.

Theres zero doubt he's playing with renewed confidence and what's better is that he is bringing others into the game with his higher workmate and confidence. I reckon he would've enjoyed the win just a little bit more than some yesterday.

That was a great mar in the final quarter

He is playing the season of his life. I guess he had too. Full credit though. He has come through a torrent of constant scrutiny after being thrown to the wolves too early.

Even if the guy doesnt rack up 20 disposals a game which is hard playing up forward , his use of the ball is always fantastic. He always finds a player with his kick and goes by foot more often than handballing.

Confidence is a wonderful thing. Go Jack.

Another stellar game by Wattsy on the weekend, will just get better year after year as his body gets more hardened

What I like about Jacks season is his consistency. This is a an attribute that cannot be underestimated.

Even in games where he hasn't had a high disposal count his contribution has been immense.

I don't want to sound controversial and I'm rapt with his output when one considers his previous years, but he's really only at minimum levels.

But I am thankful and hopefully he's drawn a line for the rest of the season and for future years.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
