JKH: where to from here?

Featured Replies

Interesting that people comment on his "training standards" based presumably on those sessions open to the public. What about what goes on behind closed doors? For what it's worth I thought JKH started 2015 with a significantly bulked up body which suggested a huge amount of off-season work in the gym.

have a look at the video of Hogan's first goal against Richmond. JKH off loads to Jones who hit Jesse lace out.

Kennedy-Harris shows in that moment that he is absolutely up to it. Just needs a dose of urgency ala Watts.

Spud. Will be out the door with Terlich and Jones

Happy to be proven wrong but can't see it happening.

I guess you get used to it after a while

I was just about to write a complimentary post about D'Landers discussing a player in an adult way and then along comes Olisik...

He's not quick. Every other poster and footy watcher knows this. Makes sense then that you wouldn't.

No exaggeration here. Why must you belittle others? When you talk footy you make sense.

Cannot blame poor player development, we now have in Brendan McCartney who is known as best in business. Like Toumpas there are players who are just not up to it, give JKH another year though, he's still young!!

I don't personally think it's a case of poor development, I'm leaning more towards the second year blues theory.

That said, poor development can't be ruled out just yet. Development isn't just down to the coaches. It's also significantly influenced by the more senior players who mentor and guide the younger ones. We still have some deficiencies in that regard.

I guess you get used to it after a while

I don't.. I just don't...

I know he is not the traditional super quick small forward but he isn't slow as people here are making him out to be.

And its seriously not a big issue at all. What Jay has that many lack is a quick mind and football smarts.

He needs to sit down over the summer and watch videos of Ben McGlyn at his peak. McGlyn was so good as that high half forward who would work his opponent up the ground and sprint back in the counter attack working his opponent over and over again. And he too wasn't quick just a massive workrate.

Jay has the tank for sure and that will only increase over the summer again.

There is definitely a spot there for him he just needs to wotk his backside off and grab his chance with both hands.

I rate JKH, i think he's a link player, another solid pre season and i reckon he'll be fine.

i actually can't believe we are worrying about a kid who is 20 years old, entering just his third preseason, played 22 games and has done some great things for the club, but obviously has some deficiencies, which he can obviously work on (20 years old people).

My lord, what has happened to this place...

I wonder if he can model himself on Nev Jetta and work towards for the lock-down small defender role? I'm concerned about Nev's repeated concussion events and think there's a need for a succession plan there. Nev doesn't have great pace but does have tremendous agility.

Maybe JKH should just retire because the some of us don't think he is a fast runner.

Speed comes indifferent forms.

Agility,reaction,,disposal/accuracy,decision making.reflexes.

I went to training a few times last summer. There was no observable drop off in training standards. I suspect it was more of a case of the newbies being the focus everyone's attention.

JKH as a second year, came back noticeably bigger and more defined, so he had clearly done a lot of work in the off-season. We also started to see him regularly in the front group in time trials - real improvement! Although he gets very down on himself when he makes a mistake, he'll work extremely hard to get where he needs to be.

Drop-off schmop-off

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
