Great to have this bloke (McCartney) at the club

That interview almost brought a tear to my eye.

I loved the way he used the word "our" when referring to the club - "our club"

I don't hear that from Roosy. It sometimes feels like Roosy is outside looking in when he talks about the club - almost like he sees himself as a consultant employed to perform a job and nothing more (which is probably about right). I'm sure he's dedicated to the job but I would love him to embrace the club as McCartney seems to have.

But to all those who imply that talk is cheap, that these interviews mean nothing, and all you want is wins or all you want is a flag..........I'm with you guys 100%.

I saw him on the train from Geelong yesterday - we said 'G'day' as I got off at Footscray. He's a pleasant guy.

Sounds a strong character to have handling the younger players.

I must say delivers a more convincing message than our senior coach.

Tony. You will start rumors rolling that "he is off to the Cats", or even that you are a closet Bulldog.

Then it has to happen off the field first.

very true.

I fervently think McCartney was our best pick up last year.

The film producer in me wants to kill the director. Why the hell was Burgan not mic'ed up? Loved McCartney's answers though. A very impressive figure and talker. Nice bit of MFC propaganda.

I nearly ran him over at Lara station last week, forgot to look crossing the car park.

There is a quote from him on the Facebook page that is worth a look at. Can't work out how to cut and paste it.

The part about needing empathy I think is key and I think is also the part Neeld missed.

"The beauty of this industry is that if you do it right for long enough, you hold your nerve, you’re patient and you believe in yourselves and still find that balance between high demands, yet empathetic understanding, it can turn."

I saw Macca on the train back to Marshall station after the Geelong win. I complimented him on the win but didn't press it further as I'm sure he just wanted some quiet time.

This is the big difference between now and past regimes. Some seem to forget that Roos, while the man at the top of the chain of command, is part of a coaching panel. And the links in that chain this time around are very strong.

Bails sadly had very little experience surrounding him. Neeld had Craigy, who he didn't listen to as much as he should have and especially on the people management front, but was surrounded by the same level of neophyte that Bails employed (didn't he also hire his runner from Ocean Grove to coach or something?). Under Roos, the backup is there off the field.

The thing Macca brings is another bloke who's been involved in premiserships, another respected voice saying " stay the course, we're on the right track"

it sounds as though he's committed to be goodys right hand man when he takes over, which is fantastic!

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
