La Dee-vina Comedia 17,136 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Melbourne last played in a VFL/AFL Grand Final on 2 September 2000. How times have changed.
La Dee-vina Comedia 17,136 Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 Why would you? Because it was our best finish since 1964 (better than 1988 because of the margin). To me that's a positive. Admittedly, very low bar.
Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 On this day/night last year i was flying back to Australia after 3 months holiday!! Fcuk the 2000 GF That was a long heartbreaking day Essendrug Thuggery
Spirit of 26 261 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Essendon [censored] slapped us and we just took it. Grgic got reported for god sake. Horrible day.
poita 3,944 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I have managed to wipe most of that day from my memory, but I pretty clearly remember Neitz and Schwarz missing gettable goals late in the first quarter when we were still in the contest. Then we dropped our heads and were crapped on in every respect thereafter. Honestly though, we would have been the least deserving premiers in league history had we got up.

Biffen 12,949 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 It would have been October 2 anyway . I remember watching Troy Simmonds get smashed by long and seeing the Melbourne players do little about it. Knew it would be long day. Should have been a no holds barred ,all in,Donnybrook.
Wilbur 447 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 For me the only +ve for the day was sitting next to a glamour at the MCG who was dressed in skimpy demons shorts and singlet.

It was September 2. The Afl season started and finished earlier that year because of the Sydney Olympics later that month

La Dee-vina Comedia 17,136 Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 Amusingly Essendon tweeted yesterday congratulating themselves for this great achievement 10 (sic) years ago. Tweet has subsequently been deleted. Presumably they couldn't remember which year due to inadequate record keeping.

Tweet has subsequently been deleted. Presumably they couldn't remember which year due to inadequate record keeping. In fairness, I still think of 2000 as being 10 years ago.
