Tom McDonald as a forward

and like his other strong traits, we only get to see them once in a blue moon

i'm over dawes. he doesn't earn his lunch. it's clear why the filth were happy to trade.

Watched Dawes intensively on Sat and and came away wondering what the hell he gives us. He can't mark unless he's a mile clear and it's on his chest, his opponent isn't afraid to run off him, he picks the wrong option again and again, He's not a target, he's not a presence, and he's not a goal kicker. Give me TMac kicking points over Dawes any round.

Though Tommy occasionally stuffs up, he quite often does very accurate, quite long, pinpoint passes out of defence.

I wouldn't write him off as a swing forward based on yesterday's kicking for goal.

Been saying this since 2013.. He offers us nothing. Poor Brad Miller use to cop some stick on here but at least he could take a mark and provide a good option yet this bloke gets off scott free. He is now far too predictable that defenders don't even pay him the respect because they know it will just bounce off his hands.

He has been a major flop and still filthy we gave up a second round draft pick (Tim Broomhead) Just another Steven Armstrong Mitch Morton school of premership players that got made to look good around a strong team.

Need to trade him off at years end and hope we land a 4th round draft pick for him.

Been a major major disappointment. For a key forward that we paid 500k a year his return so far this year is 5 goals in 7 games.. I rest my case.

We can't afford to lose him down back. Otherwise it would be a yes for me, given he could learn to hit the side of a barn with his kicks!

why? would we suddenly start losing games.

You have my vote uncle.

No need or potential as a forward.

Some rough kicks landed in his lap-then he missed the sticks.

Get real lads!

Sounds exactly like Dawes Biff

Except he can actually mark them.

I think Hogan needs Tommy Mc forward, he needs someone to help take the load...

T-Mac actually wills himself to the ball. Need a plan B when Hogan's out of the game and Dawes continues to give us nothing. Promising signs in that 4th term. Get him in front of the posts at Gosch's this week and let's see what he can give us next week. Doesn't have to be the whole game as he can still be a handy defender, this is by by no means a permanent move I want, but at times this year he's ran inside 50 anyway, I'm sure he's feeling more confident around goal than before

I'm happy for him to stay in the back line. Obviously his running power is good and if he keeps using it down the wing and either has a crack or delivers it into the forward line I'm more than happy.

How about Tommy getting back to being the key defender he was until Cloke got hold of him. Our key backs have been smashed recently.

People may be forgetting that we have Frost. He is also a pretty dodgy kick for goal but better than TMac.

I can seeing this happen.. If he hands off every set shot to jones watts or vince!

if we were to get Henderson, we would have a fantastically versatile key position setup.

Agree but let's keep Tmac in defence and play Spenser up fwd until Frost is back. Play Watts out of the square and give him some space, anything, let's mix it up.

Before yesterday he had 4.5, then kicked for goal in the same way everyone else did: like crud. Too small a sample set with too much circumstancial evidence for mine.

I also doubt he's done much goal kicking work since he's been groomed as a defender. It could be any issue that he has with goal kicking could be trained out.

you can't take samples yet, as he needs to learn that position & grow into it. Hogan is a leadup power FForward. We need a strong running & marking CHF who can field kick, & we also need a deep really tall marking forward, who can ruck.

a Henderson fills multiple roles. takes some of the heat of Hogan.

Classic Demonland thread.

No, just no.

Classic Demonland response.

Why, just why?

classic ultra-conservative non-entrepreneurial thinking, retreat to the castle & draw the bridge, quick. protect what we've got! "but our food is running low sire", oh, just sacrifice a few more peasants, throw them over the walls. we're getting low on peasants to, sire?

as the game swings back to one on one Dawes is really limited. when more space he's ok.

I'm just not sure why you'd start playing a guy, who was set for CHB in the AA team before a dip in form, in the forwardline. It's a recipe for disaster. Carlisle is a very good example why it shouldn't be done.

David Neitz says "Hi"...!

Fact is, Tom made a real difference when he went forward. I'd like to see it persisted with (with LOTS of goal-kicking parctice during the week). Replace in down back with Fitzy. (And drop Howe to make way for Fitzy in the side...)

Worth a try...

I find it hard to disagree Vagg

At least T mac can hold marks that makes him unique in the MFC forward line.

We can play Tmac as a defender up forward on Dawes. With his mobility, he can lead Dawes up the ground to the ball and create space for Hogan, and if the ball is bombed in as per usual Tommy can defend against Dawes' attempts to split the contest and spoil toward one of our crumbers.

Hi David. :D You were never as poor by foot as Tommy Mac is. That's why you succeeded. Come back to the MFC soon.

Our problem on the weekend was kicking the thing straight, OD. Tommy Mac is arguably our worst kick.

That did seem to affect a few others AF

Remember to kick a goal first you have to get the ball.

'He kicked as many in one quarter as Hogan ( 1 .0 ) , Vandenberg( 1.1 ) , Tyson( 1.0 ), Howe ( 1.1) Garlett (1. 2) and more than Dawes (0.3)

Did in four quarters.

How can it Makes us worse?

As Robbo's article in today's HUN says almost every statt says we are the same as 2014 i.e. going no where fast or slow for that matter.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
