Delistings/trades at end of the season

The journo's chatting with Harford on SEN said they believe Toumpas will play his footy somewhere else next year. Not sure on what the were basing it on but, just made a passing comment.

It was also gob smacking how many of the top picks have moved clubs..

Also, I like how he said 17 other clubs would have picked Toumpas over Ollie Wines.

17 other clubs might get their second chance

You'd think any pick under #30 would be a win from where he is currently.

And highly unlikely I'd think.

Melbourne duo Jeremy Howe and Jack Watts will not be at the club next year for very different reasons according to Brett Anderson.

“I’d be surprised if either player was at the footy club next year,” said Anderson on SEN radio.

“From what I’ve heard I would expect that Jeremy Howe would field an offer from somewhere else, with Gold Coast being the one most linked to him.

“In terms of Jack Watts there is probably no clear destination as it stands.”

I am awaiting Angry at Casey's " Get Michael Talia" thread.

OK, so if we could convince Prestia to come to us, and he was happy to play alongside Bennell, would anyone consider Howe, along with our first and second round pick, for Bennell, Prestia and their second rounder? Actually it would probably take us accepting their 3rd rounder instead... that would give us Prestia, Bennell and pick 44 ish (before compo picks and assuming he is adamant he will give us his best) for Howe, pick 6 ish and pick 24 ?

I would be very tempted as it would give us an immediate and large talent boost, for Howe and 2 speculative picks.

Thoughts?

Tempting. As long as he is adamant he will give us his best.

I thought you have me on "Ignore" bloke .... lol

Gotta give something to get something. That is as close to a fair trade as i could come up with. We get a player who is recovering from a serious injury, along with a player with MASSIVE talent, but questionable application, and the Coasters get a marketable high flyer (who incidentally i rate as being above average if he applied himself) and 2 high picks to replace the losses they have recently suffered. We both take risks, but also stand to be rewarded if things come off. Win-Win if ever there was a trade with those properties i reckon.

The fact that peeps would pause before saying YES or NO makes me believe that it is realistic.

That quote is from 2 weeks ago.

I'd be quite happy to trade Watts and Howe for pick 6, Prestia and Bennell. If we got a second rounder back, we'd be sitting pretty.

I don't listen to SEN. Is Anderson known for having any genuine insights/inside information or does he just speculate and report his opinion as fact? He certainly wouldn't be alone. I get the feeling quite a few of them do it.

I'm not interested in Bennell at all but in a weak draft would think about Howe and our first pick for Prestia. Not sure if the Suns would go for it.

That sen quote is from ten days ago reposted by some facebook page today. Keep up fellas...

Toumpas for Matt Crouch straight swap

Did you mean Watts, Howe AND our pick 6, for Prestia and Bennell? ( +/_ second rounder) If so i could also be convinced, but i might even go as low as their 3rd rounder back as MFC at least know what we would be getting in that trade. And lets face it, unless pick 6 for them turns out to be a very good player, we would be in front easily.

Something you've heard, or something you're proposing?

If Prestia requested a trade I think they'd jump at a top 10 pick. They wouldn't be happy about it, but it's better compensation than Adelaide'll probably get.

I'd take Brad. :P Think I'd prefer to back Toumpas for another year or two over Matt.

Yeah, I meant AND.

I'd argue there's a bit of risk in it from our end too. Prestia is coming off a knee injury and Bennell could well blow up in a year or two and go off the rails. I think it's a pretty fair trade and there's a chance Gold Coast go from their vice captain seeking a trade, to potentially winning the trade if pick 6 turns out to be a goodie.

Yes, but thats what i said in my previous post. We would both be taking a risk, but the simple fact that people would need to scratch their chin before deciding yes or no says to me that its a fair trade.

just something i thought up.

Nope, I wouldn't do that, that for me is Too aggressive trading. I see too many risks, for what we pay off in that deal..

I would do Howe + our 3rd Rnd pick, for GCSuns pick 10...

..... then give them P-10 + our 2016 2nd Rnd pick, IF that would get us Prestia.

IF not, I would just do the Howe part for P-10, then use that pick on a Weideman, from the national draft.

Keeping our P-5/6 for the draft as well. hoping for Charlie Curnow.

Brett Anderson is known for very little other than being a self-proclaimed draft expert.

He doesn't have ANY runs on the board in regards to inside knowledge with trades as far as I know.

Fwiw I've been told Watts will stay, mostly because we're unlikely to get better value by moving him on.

So the default position is we keep an under-performing player because he is so damaged we cannot trade him out.

Says it all about our past club doesnt it? Really what an invidious position to be in. We held on to him far too long IMO and in future players really want to be showing more than potential to get more than 4 years on the liist. What a Joke!

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
