Would need two injuries in the mids to even get regular games at Sydney

imo Bird is ahead of him and he isn't getting played either

Could want to leave for more game time, but he would probably rather stay with his brother

Bird would be worth a look.Underrated player, only 26 (27 at the start of next year).

He won't consolidate a position in Sydney's midfield next year.

An update on other club interest is some players mentioned by posters: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/fremantle-in-talks-for-gold-coast-forward-charlie-dixon-20150715-gid747.html

Summary:

Charlie Dixon suitors: Freo, Crows, Lions

Leunberger suitors: Cats

Suckling suitors: Lions (Suckling a FA and still uncontracted)

Treloar suitors: Pies, Tigers, North (Pies tipped to get him)

Also, earlier this week I heard that Carlisle is a lock to go from Bombers to Blues.

So that is a few players off some 'wish lists'.

As it looks likely that we get Dion, the midfield is still our priority.

This will cost our first pick (at least) so it limits our ability to trade in, another high quality player eg a forward, forward/ruck..

Hopefully, our recruiters can pull off a Vandenberg type find, or do a 2 for 1 trade (eg Toumpas and Howe for player X), or they have confidence in one of our developing players, to fill the positions we are poor in.

From what i hear the question is not whether Dion will request a trade to Melbourne but what they will want for him. I velieve he has at least one family member who lurks here on occasion.

With the top end of the draft being loaded with talls and their need to replace Dixon, I'll take a wild stab in the dark and say our first pick. - although they would also need to replace Dion and Bennell who will be moved on as well. We'd need to throw in some loose change as well. I wonder what Rocket's opinion of Dawes was when he was at the pies?

Well if they are reading this, lets let them know we love Dion and think hes a gun and we want him at the Dees to join our rising midfield and team next season and beyond

We will welcome him with open arms, and he will have the luxury of hitting a bloke called Jesse Hogan lace out the rest of his career. He will not have to do all the heave lifting as we have clearance guns in Jonesy, Viney, Vince, Tyson, Brayshaw and Vandenberg already here and a young bull named Petracca coming in 2016.

Not to mention playing on the MCG every week is a little better than playing a Metricon stadium. We will also give him heaps of $$$

Cheers Mr/Mrs/Ms Prestia!

I would still like us to try leverage Aish, Dion or not. We can use Dawes/Howe to generate trade income.

Pick 4 or 5 on it's own should be enough I'd say, maybe shuffle some later picks.

I think we should be looking at our list needs. Aish is not that player.

He is almost identical to Toumpas in style of play, height and weight.

Well, I am glad it is such a fait accompli.

Any idea yet of the number he will wear?

Without the clangers

I dont think aish is the type we want, ideally id love dion and leuenberger and then just look to add run and carry players or skillful half backs

If we did get Prestias it would mean Bernice Vince could play his twilight years as an outide midfielder and hopefully could go on for a few more years playing great footy with less wear on his body

Would also free up Angus to play a bit more outside and use his elite kicking skills in space

Well, I am glad it is such a fait accompli.

Yeah... I dont think it will be that easy.

If he wants to come to us, we still have the problem of him being contracted.

Gold Coast will lose a few players already. Dont think they will let him walk.

We own his rights until the end of the trade period. If a club wants him, they have to trade with us or take the chance that he'll be around when they pick in the National Draft or Preseason Draft. I hope we give him a 2 year deal; he's shown enough this year to warrant it, IMO.

unless he's on the merry go round

some deals will already have been discussed & agreed to, by all party's concerned.

time will tell

Posters wanting Howe to be traded don't understand the present AFL landscape. He is out of contract and will nominate a club and get there. We will then get unders in terms of any trade or he will manipulate the draft to get to his destination. Howe leaving is unlikely to be a win for us.

clubs Interest in Howe, I imagine the list would read like

1 Giants/Lions equally

2 ................................

3 Suns

4

5 Freo

6 Blues/Crows

7 Saints

unwise for clubs to make master unaflable

you don't like him when he's mad, especially when on record as trying to reinstate the integrity of the draft. howe is this so you may ask?

it will be a big win for us as it will be another useless spud off the list

Hopefully 6.

What will the contracted Dawes wear?

Surely, no-one else will trade for him?

Ok fine

It will be a win for us as its another VFL standard player off the list

Lol, Dion is the clearance gun. Better than any of those blokes you mention. And I thought he was a B grader, HH? :P

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
