Training - Wednesday 18th March, 2015

Featured Replies

Highlights of today:

1. Bail, Matt Jones and Stretch taken aside for some tackling and competing work. Why? Because Matt Jones seems to give away a free kick whenever he goes near someone. Stretch is a skinny body who will need to be taught to tackle and ride tackles to protect himself in the VFL (although did play SANFL last year) and Bail seems to slip off tackles as well. Just made me happy that the coaches have noticed players weaknesses and are actively involved in fixing them.

2. Just how much work Vince got through. Seeing Howe do a fair bit and Kent do plenty as well.

3. Nev Jetta's voice in drills. Very positive. Confident

By the way. When they went in to full ground match simulation (with token pressure only) the team was;

FB: Garland Dunn Jetta

HB: Grimes McDonald Salem

C: Toumpas Jones Newton

HF: M. Jones Dawes JHK

FF: Frost Hogan Garlett

Foll: Jamar Lumumba Tyson

Fitsy first string of games last year were very. very uninspired and he did not warrant selection IMO. Kicking goals in junk time at the end of the season does not fill me with confidence. I guess by TDI rationale because of this latest virus/diabetes issue he has not had a "perfect pre season" and therefore deserves another crack at it in and beyond.

I know he wont appreciate it,but in OPINION he is on borrowed time.

He knows that, have chatted to him about it, that is why he was disappointed at getting the virus, if a forward is uninspiring but kicks a goal that wins us a game, I'll take that

Interesting using Frost as a forward! How good would it be if he became our Mitch Clark replacement! Then we would need to fast track young O. McDonald to take over Chip's role.

Have they been practising their 2nd half?

What you mean staying inside the dressing room mentally, they did that against the Bulldogs

Chatted a bit more about it to the players, Roos understood the reasoning behind the foot coming off the pedal slightly in the 3rd quarter, but was unimpressed with how far it came off in the 4th quarter, does not want to see a repeat of that against Essendon and definitely not in actual games, a few of the senior players, Jones, Dunn, Lumumba, Cross also had words

Told posters before, when a player is on the list, they get my unconditional support, but I also understand why players leave or are delisted, as I understand footy

I find posters calling players NQR, useless or a spud, puerile and offensive, they wouldn't have the kahunas to tell the players to their face

Arsenal got knocked out of the Champions League this morning and I told Chris Salem that his performance today at training reflected this, he told me to do something involving sex and travel haha

would you tell Magner to his face that he has been ordinary and he was delisted for a reason?

bring your scooter if you do! he's a big bloke

[brian Taylor reckons he built East Link - haha good one Bristle you kn0b]

One other interesting bit from today, Frost again did ruckwork with Stafford and the rest of the ruck division except Pedo

That is interesting re Frost, particularly with what G R.R.M posted. Seems as though we may see how he goes this week. Still really like him down back though.

Still, maybe he'll be our Stef Martin replacement.. both very athletic.

Gotta teach Frosty how to sheppard with those VW ears. No one would every get around him!

Matt Jones much spend a lot of time being spoken to away from the main group if thats how they handle players flaws.

So Bernie was doing full contact and running at full capacity as far as you can tell?

So maybe Frost and Gawn will be completing for the one spot (forward/2nd ruck). interesting

If Frost keeps going the way he is right now, i would pick him over Gawn.

I actually did once when he was a Dee, if you do it respectfully they don't mind, Dom Tyson asked my opinion of his game against Freo, told him his disposal was a bit ordinary and he agreed, said today he is still working on the timing, same with Jeff Garlett who agreed he couldn't get near the ball against Freo, contrary to poplular belief, they are not up themselves

You just have, or doesn't that count?

No it counts. I unreservedly apologise to other DL posters as i know how patronising it is to be told by a forum poster what they should do or think

I spoke to Bernie, he is ready to go, they just want another weeks training into him now, expecting to play with Casey next week, the way it is going, might be worth going to watch

As for Frost, has a great leap, is athletic and speed to burn, is young, make him a versatile tall, talls take time, if we can have one that can play both ends and ruck, yes please

And sheppard with his ears.

Does Bernie look as though he's put some muscle back on those pin arms?

Does Bernie look as though he's put some muscle back on those pin arms?

I'd be shocked if he did, think he is always going to be one of those rangy types, put Jonesy on his arse in one on one drill at the end of the session, using footy smarts

Have you just told us what we should feel about being told what we should do or think?

And where's your full-stop?

I am loving the lack of kids in the AFL for the Dees. We play them way too early, on not enough form.

this this this

Any questions feel free

Seeing as you asked, why do you think you're gods gift to the world and are superior to everyone else just because you hang out at training every second day?

Your posts are laced with arrogance and contempt for other posters and it's getting old.

Thanks gawd the season is about to start.

Not another beat up Saty thread derailment. His tone and obvious pride of his interactions with players etc may grate some, but he provides useful information. If his manner annoys you guys more than you value his information, please just ignore him. If you like the information, then ignore what annoys you. Posters are not going to change him by endlessly beating him up in these threads.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
