  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I vaguely recall the Crows getting a few whacks for selecting a teenager still in school from Victoria in 2007, instead of Brad Ebert..

Was that a failure?

No, because they selected Dangerfield.

Not really related to my point.

A failure is a failure, but what's worse? A failure that everyone else would've taken at that pick, or a failure that few or no-one else would've taken at that pick? What sits better in the gut?

I doesn't exonerate them, but it's less damning than players who were surprise selections. That is what sets apart a selection like Cook who was a surprise selection on top of being a complete bust. So essentially a failure on all possible fronts.

All Australian under 18 CHF? Yep a surprise.

I understand what you are saying, but I would stop at the 'failure is a failure' point.

I think the whole 'we picked who others said we should pick' is a bit of a comforting blanket we hide under to make the noise go away...

Jeremy Howe is the pick I like.

Although he was on the radar - he was consider a speculative pick at best - possible to go very late in the draft or even rookied.

We went against "popular wisdom". We liked what we saw and took him earlier than expected.

And I agree with you to that extent. But there is a lesser of two evils about it for me.

Pick 12 came as a surprise to many. His own manager thought he'd be taken around pick 30. So yeah he was an U18 AA but that doesn't automatically lock you in for a pick around the top ten.

Just an example anyway, not central to what we're discussing.
