McCartin seems the safer bet, but Wright has the potential to fit our structure better as he can play ruck, too. Think Kurt Tippett.

McCartin is the more typical power forward in the Hogan/Dawes mould.

Personally wouldn't mind either, Wright is a better kick and is quick for a big bloke, but there's question marks over his competitiveness/hardness.

Presumably Roos will prefer the player who likes the dirty stuff more. The one who tackles, has more agility, a bigger tank and better fitness.

But then he might prefer the guy with class. Interesting to know his thoughts on Hogan.

Just saw some Wright highlights and was impressed......he is a big unit, and plays centre half forward and Ruck.

He might just compliment Hogan perfectly as I see McCartin as a similar type to Hogan.

A difficult choice though, hope we take one of them along with Brayshaw.

Strange comments. Vaguely talking about undefined timelines. Avoided saying he would definitely be playing with the Crows next season and at this stage seems more commited to playing in the upcoming International Rules games.

I would be very happy with Petracca and Brayshaw.

Roos has said before he doesn't like recruiting big blokes cause they look better than they r in the seconds cause they r up against smaller bodied players.

Well Mahoney did come out and say it after the Griffen story broke, so the club must have reconsidered their options.

GWS won't be able to get pick 1 if they give pick 4 to the Bulldogs for Griffen.

Certainly seems to be tracking well for us.

Having said that, I still find it hard to believe that we aren't looking to downgrade at least one of our picks.

I still think both picks are on the table but we'll see what eventuates.

Best case scenario is the rumours are true and Danger agrees to come. Worst case scenario we take both picks to the draft.

I think it'll be somewhere in the middle. A club desperate for a key forward will put up a good player and the trade will get done on the last day, ala Tyson.

I suspect that other clubs have been assuming we're desperate for a 2-for-1, Tyson/Salem style deal, and have been low-balling us because they figure we want to trade more than they do.

Mahoney's comments today ("We're perfectly happy taking 2 & 3 to the draft" or words to that effect) are then probably a not-very-subtle message to those clubs that their offers so far haven't been close to the mark, and they need to step it up.

It pisses me off so much that GWS of all teams... GWS, the basketcase of the league, have found a way to get the CAPTAIN of another club to nominate them as a team of choice. Meanwhile, we have nothing.

I'll be really annoyed if we get through this trade period and haven't landed a single big fish. We have more money than anyone (except GWS apparently) and the best combination of draft picks, yet... nothing.

Players should be banging down our door to play under Roos on good coin in a building team. Does playing in front of 3000 people every week for a living seem an attractive proposition to any aspiring AFL player?

Big fish? Well who exactly? It's not as if they're cueing up to change clubs, and with clubs willing to let them go.

It's also not the case that all players want to go to all clubs - Blease to Brisbane (sick father), Griffin to GWS (knows the coach, wants to get out of the limelight) etc. etc. I know it's called the Trade Period, but participating isn't compulsory - the Swans have already said they probably wouldn't be doing any trades.

We've got two great trades incoming - Garlett and Lumumba, both of whom should easily finish in our top 10 for quite a few seasons to come. Add to that Stretch and a couple of great draftees, then add in 2 "new" first round picks in Hogan and Trengove - I for one would be very happy with that.

The Tyson deal was a happy meeting of coincidences - we wanted Salem, and were confident he'd still be there at 9, Tyson was a bit under the raider because he'd had serious injuries and hadn't played much footy, GWS wanted to control the top end of the draft etc. etc.

We can only work around what's available/possible, and rather no trade than the wrong trade just for the sake of making one - which is what you seem to be asking for.

Really well said bing. This idea that we have to land a 'big fish' is silly really. How often does that happen in any trade period? Not often at all. As you say we have some good players coming in alongside draftees and guys who have missed most, if not all, of last season. We are very well placed.

Brayshaw and either Petracca or Wright seems a pretty good reason to retain our first two picks. Expect Hogan, Trengove and Toumpas all to make an impact next year!
