Patrick Dangerfield

Fair enough but the difference with that is Judd had said he wanted to go Carlton so Westcoast were almost forced to accept the deal, which isn't really a bad one but in terms of Judds quality at the time they probably felt they could have got more from sides with better picks to trade with (if there were any at the time)

There isn't that much difference, PD wants to come back to Victoria & Adelaide are bent over a barrel as they will only recieve one pick next year if he leaves under free agency. What is another club going to offer for Dangerfield that trumps our offer? That is the real question. Work the deal backwards from there & only offer what you have to give.

Don't think we are going to get Danger, but if I was in charge I would go with something like this:

Pick 2 and 3 plus Toump for Danger, pick 10 and 3rd rounder

We could then trade pick 10 plus Watts to Sydney for Mitchell and their 1st or 2nd rounder.

Ahh I can only dream !!

I agree, that sounds fair to me.

Although I'd probably prefer Picks 2, 3 & Toumpas for Dangerfield, Lyons & Pick 10.

We can then use Pick 10 to draft a young mid, or look to trade it for someone like O'Rourke with Frost.

That is a good point, but we aren't sure if the Danger rumours are true, although they could be and if they are then you've got me beat on this one.

I guess the way I am looking at it is that if Danger doesn't say he wants to go anywhere then what would we have to offer to make Adelaide accept the trade ?

If Danger doesn't want to come back to Victoria there is no point discussing the trade as you would be paying overs for someone who doesn't want to be here anyway. The bargaining chip is that he wants to come home, this reduces the price you have to pay. If he doesn't there is no pressure for Adelaide to deal & the deal is off.

Just because he might not want to leave Adelaide doesn't mean he would want to stay if they accepted to trade him.

Imagine if your girlfriend told you she was dumping for you for another guy, your not going to stick around knowing that she wants to be with some other bloke.

If Adelaide accept the offer then why would he want to stay there knowing that they have decided to go on without him ? Plus we would offer him an anus load of $$$ !!

Like how another club is trying to poach Mitch Clark?

Yeah, about that angry.

This competition is all about number one. If Dangerfield is open to talks and we aren't talking, we shouldn't be competing at this level.

At least Crows have made some return on their investment, us 15 games... Ffs so disappointing.

Danger has expressed (maybe not publically) a desire to return to Melbourne (city) for the 2nd half of his career.... much like Judd. He has publically and openly refused to entertain an extension to his current contract. He is at least entertaining MFCs approaches, which is now a MFC offer. No doubt he is also entertaining other clubs offers. He is highly likely to leave Adelaide .

and by the sounds of things our offer is huge, and it would be very unlikely any other side could match it or the trade assets we have to get the deal done, the MFC would now be banking on the crows starting to panic and wanting to take the best deal on the table

GNF, do you know if Roosy has gone to adelade to speak to danger in person?

Ok. I'm just of the opinion of not paying overs for anyone when there are other deals possibly available such as the Tyson trade last year. I'd rather use the picks for other options & cover more holes in the list than what you were proposing. I most likely wouldn't offer anything more than pick 3, a player & a pick not in the first round.

How many Tyson's do you think there are hiding on lists throughout the league?

A star like Dangerfield will bring a lot to our side, make players around him better, exponentially lifting the standard.

100% agree, take the heat right off Jones and Tyson and lets the young guys develop watching a fully fledged superstar of the game go to work up close

Danger would have a massive flow on effect to the rest of the team. Just imagine Viney and Salem learning from he and Jones on field, under Roos' tutelage. Exciting stuff!

It would be a massive coup having one of the most high profile stars of the game coming to our club.

Roos seemed to manage ok without getting a star like Dangerfield to Sydney, admittedly he had some pretty handy players like goodes already. No point selling the farm for one player that blows out your entire trade period. If Dangerfield is available for a decent price all well & good.

he did have adam goodes, dual brownlow medallist, don't desperately need A graders when you already have some.

That's fair enough.

Not sure we need to give up too much for him. Pick 2/3 is surely enough, if we throw in the Toump, I'd want 10 back.

If we can't get the deal done, and he wants the Dees, we wait a year and he walks as a free agent?

If he is out of contract at the moment then our only chance would be to make an offer he can't refuse - an obscene one along the lines of the one GWS gave Voldemort or Sydney gave Buddy. The offer that the Crows can't match and would leave them to negotiate the best deal they possibly can. I wouldn't worry about the success factor - a marque player like Dangerfield would likely have an enormous effect and lift the rest of the team.

I remain a sceptic but it's possible if Clark and Frawley are off our books.

1 mil plus and 6-7 years would be our best and only chance I reckon

Your giving up 3 potential superstars for one.

This is how I look at it:

- Toumpas' value as a 'pick 4 potential superstar' has depreciated to half.

- Pick 10 in 'potential superstar' currency is worth half of Pick 2

so it becomes 2 potential superstars for Dangerfield

a potential superstar with a top 3 pick is probably about a 50-50

so its one star for another which is about right ;)

sounds like I'm stuffing around, but I only half am

7 years at 1.1m, front loaded? Gives him 2 years with Roos and reunites him with his old captain as the succeeding coach.

Haha, we can dream!

'Jack', you've been around long enough to know this doesn't work.

I have no doubt about our capacity to pay.

My question really concerns our capacity to attract.

Then again, if anyone can do it, Roos can.

Toumpas is not a draft pick and nor is any other AFL listed player.

Just like every other player they need to be rated on there performances and what they look to be able to deliver. The fact that Toumpas was a high pick means nothing now and what he has shown on the field has been average at the very best. Injurys and playing in a crummy team and blah blah blah, he hasn't delivered in the AFL. And in my opinion he does not have the power or speed to be a high quality player in the future. Therefore I believe the trade I proposed is decent for both parties if Adelaide wanted to trade Danger.

Similar to Scully. No chance in hell he would go at 1 now

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
