Dangerfield, Fyfe and any of those massive profile players...

In regards to some of you who think we will go chasing down big players at the end of the year.

It is not in the Roos formula to buy a player for over a million a year. It is very likely we will bring in a few players, but i am very very doubtful it will be Dangerfield or Fyfe. I would love these players as much as anyone, but as soon as Melbourne supporters get out of fairy land, thinking we we could get them, the sooner we can actually focus on who we might actually get.

Now, saying "oh, but we didnt expect to get Tyson", doesnt cut it. Tyson was not a household name and a much much easier target. Those are the targets, once again that we should be getting.

It is more likely we spend half of that on someone like Mckay, Mundy or somebody else. We may even just stick to the draft.

But it is very likely that Melbourne will not have Fyfe or Dangerfield in red and blue next year, and years to come.

Also, potentially we will look at GWS young players and try get them.

Now. once again. I will say. I would love a massive profile player of the calibre of Gibbs, Fyfe or Dangerfield, but it ail not happen and our culture will be better for it. To not have so much focus on bringing in someone as the "messiah".

I would love people to challenge me on what they think, it will be interesting to see. But this is my honest opinion.

Can't fault your logic and I wouldn't be disappointed. Money better spent on younger players that can fit into the Roos style.

I think we can now trust the recruiters to make good decisions in light of last years recruiting.

Wrong

Roosy will happily throw the chequebook at Fyfe, Dangerfoeld, Cameron etc etc

If you think he wont you have rocks in your head

Wrong, no one uses cheque books any more.

I believe all transactions will be conducted electronically.

Wrong, Carlton still pay with brown paper bags full of cash.

And horses heads in their beds if they play poorly.

I think Essendon and Stephen Dank use the same method

Nah theirs would be a not so discrete hand shake exchange and into the pocket type deal.

Roos has never thrown the cheque book because he's never coached in a period of free agency.

If the club has the cap room and list management to boot, they will throw everything at the likes of Dangerfield.

They'd be stupid not to. You can't sit on your hands in free agency. Admittedly there's nothing noble to "buying" your way to success, but if you don't, someone else will.

Wow, what a condescending opening post. "Let me tell you wrong people what it is really like"

Personally, I'd be very keen to target the next half-step down from the superstars, better value for money and less vulnerability to having just a few players out.

Hill not Fyfe, Sidebottom not Pendlebury, Fresh air not Gibbs or Murphy.

Ha ha ha ha. Poor Carlton.

Since there is already a massive thread for that discussion, maybe we can make this a joke thread about players who are considered 'great' by supporters of their club, but we wouldn't touch with a HAZMAT suit on.

I nominate Alex Rance. I'm sure we could grab him on a $600k five year contract.

So...if anyone thinks we have a problem with disposal and decision making from defence now then Rance would drive us all crazy. Can't deny his courage to hit the contest but it is a real raffle when has the ball in his hands.

wrong, proof is going for shuey and rockcliff last year. I'm sick of hearing all this [censored] about roos not bringing in star players it not how he rolls ect... did it ever occur to any of you nipwits that he inherited a sydney team, which had adam goodes (won the brownlow that year) oloughlin, okeefe. stuey maxfield, barry hall, the boltons and kirk and thats just to name a few, you don't need to be throwing the $$ at big names when you have plenty already.

How about, goldsack, Rosa and mackay, I reckon we could get all three for the same price as Fyfe,

I'd also like Mundy, sure he is nearly 30 but he is still playing good footy in a strong side

I reckon 3-4 good years out of him and viney, toumpas, Salem, Tyson, hogan and co will all be around the 100 game mark

Roos will target the big names if they are out there.

He has only signed on for 3 years at most.

That is the kind of deals that will positively impact our side moving forward.

Exactly. It's what these 'massive profile players' cost (as well as them being amenable to switching clubs) that will decide whether we pull the trigger.

I agree, its ridiculous

he got Barry Hall to the Swans when he was on the verge of stardom at St Kilda, people seem to forget that

I know there are always pros and cons etc but I want Nate Fyfe.

This came up in a thread earlier in the year. Apparently, Hall was already at the Swans when Roos took over. So Hall was an Eade signing.

I gotta say that Dangerfield and Fyfe excite me less than pretty much anyone in say the Sydney midfield. I wouldn't say no to either coming, obviously. Dangerfield's a greater impact player than Fyfe, but I'd much prefer one of the gut-running Sydney mids.

Let's just be clear I was being sarcastic, with that whole thing about "wouldn't touch while wearing a HAZMAT suit".

I'm really anxious to be clear about this! Rance is a poor man's Tom McDonald, too loose as a defender and too wonky on the counterattack.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
