Liam Jurrah's attempt at a comeback

Featured Replies

Again, the underlying driving force for much of the hatred on this topic is RACISM. You can dress it up as "this guy is a danger to society and should be locked away" etc. but it is driven by racism. It seems that when people express sympathy or attempt to understand the complexity and tragedy of the plight of young indigenous men like Liam, they are labeled as delusional do-gooders. The situation is complex.

Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone

Not sure I agree entirely. Obviously that element exists (in close to the same proportions in most countries). But in this case, I think we are seeing MFC supporters taking it personally, given the recent investment we have made to provide the workplace for these kids and with almost no ROI as we stand.

Liam is part of that story for sure. But the same folks that continue to berate the club for decisions that have led to 7 years in the wilderness; that led to complete recent dysfunction, should maybe consider how well our players would have coped in a healthier system. Liam may have been the same at GFC or Sydney - but I doubt it.

Dazzle. Can you confirm the occupants of the car included his children? Otherwise, why are they relevant and what is your point?

Are you seriously for real??? Its not about who was in the car its the fact he has two young kids alone! Where is his responsibility there!? Do you think its a good idea for a 26 year father risking his life doing 140 in a 100k zone? Not only is he is putting himself at risk but people around him! His kids arent going to have a dad soon the way he is carrying on and thats a dam shame for any kid to grow up with without a dad. Because your basically saying its ok what he did but its irelevant in whos in the car.. Poor form LF

Bollocks. It's got nothing to do with his race. It has to do with him acting like a moron that impacts on the rest of society. If anything the racism comes from the chardonnay sipping set that make apologies for his idiotic behavior based on his race. He is an adult male who needs to be held responsible for his actions, not some sort of child that doesn't know any better.

I rest my case

Speaking honestly, what's the fastest you have ever driven a car?

Sanctimonious if anywhere close to 140 clicks. Bullshitting if not.

Exactly. We have all driven stupidly.

I rest my case

Rest it all you want, but you're the people that want to play up the differences between white and black Australia, and how that should give a certain sector a cop out on not acting in a socially acceptable way. I see a man that needs a good kick up the arse. You see a child that needs to be coddled and have his boo-boos kissed better. You think that because of who he is and where he comes from he isn't a fully rational and reasoning human being. It's as bad as the 19th century attitudes, and just as damaging.

113 in a 110k zone.

Whats your point.

Speaking honestly, as a multi-generational white Australian, I'd love to solve the inequity that continues to exist in our society with the Australian indigenous people.

I'd love to see how we can close the gaps in health and lifestyle especially, where the average age of indigneous males is close to my current age.

You're a good young bloke and no doubt a local role model DD. Liam's story doesn't help. That's my point.

I agree, I think it should start through education, give them a better foundation for the future, but that's just my two bobs worth.

Oh!

Thats ok then .....lol.

If you're going to start accusing someone of something, get your facts right. And if you get them wrong, then be man enough (or woman enough) to admit you got it wrong.

And people accuse some of our players of being gutless.

As I said much earlier, I am sure if someone had a simple solution it would have been put in place by now.

Throwing huge amounts of money, "sit down money", hasn't worked....does nothing for self esteem and sense of worth.

Their communities need to engage and drive their kids firstly into education, and not tolerate truancy. May he a starting point. Then participating in health care and health education.

Oh so complex....but "poor fella me" doesn't work either.

Totally missing the point....again.

Ok lets say that i got my facts slighty wrong in saying that he was drink driving twice , when infact it was was once and the second time was speeding 30k over the limit, and he was charged but not convicted of the machette attack

Well....woopie doo!

He is a woman basher and drink driver.

My point was always that he is a criminal and should be locked up before he kills someone period.

Its people like you that are so lost in their own self importance ,and think they are so smart that let people re offend untill someone dies.

And as far as calling me gutless goes.....you dont know me at all....and ill back myself against pseudo criminal advocates like you anyday.

Judge, jury and executioner.

Judge, jury and executioner.

No mate just an opinion, like everyone else on here....and i am entitled to it.

Also, not only was he doing 30 k over the limit, it was actually a police chase, from which he escaped and was later arrested.

I will also be proved correct when he is locked up again after being tried for his latest offence.

Congratulations. You finally got something correct. Proud of you.

Haha was waiting for this. Twice charged, once jailed- cops try and pull him over and he engages high speed chase..

But you're right, once again its White Australia's fault for being racist! This has nothing to do with race, it's to do with a man who has no concern for his actions or real care for the repercussions. If this scenario was happening with Jack trengove you'd see the same comments.

Congratulations. You finally got something correct. Proud of you.

Misses the point yet again....sigh

Yep lets send him to the penal colonies in Van Demins land....Talk about salom witch hunts....

Lets close this thread it has degenerated to a very low point.

I am struggling to see what is now gained by further discussion on one persons decent into a very sad state.

Which certain sector?

Of course it's not about race - it's never about race. But I'd like you to expand your views on chardonnay sippers - I'm as ignorant about them as you seem to be about Aboriginals.

You don't know what sort of person I am. I don't know who you are either.

I do know racism when I see it. The fervour with which people condemn Liam Jurrah is not just because he has done the wrong thing. many people do wrong things but don't inspire the hatred this situation has. The fact that the guy is on a dangerous trajectory is obvious to all, but nature of the condemnation by some posters is out of whack, as is the dismissal of posters who attempt to put forward a more nuanced viewpoint.

Congratulations for taking this thread to a place that it didn't need to go anywhere near.

I just have a wee problem with "lock him up and throw away the key".

It is a sad fall from grace. There are cultural issues and he has broken the law and will be dealt with.

Call me a bleeding heart, and yes, each person needs to take responsibility for their actions but I feel a sense of sadness when anyone ( be it black, white, green or blue) makes poor life choices for whatever reason.

Nutbean, this is not the first time i have agreed with you.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
