We will host 3 games in NT next year

Pathetic. Is that the absolute best you can come back with? Straw argument?

You are contradicting yourself. You admit we're not 'overly' profitable, you admit we are suffering from poor decision making, you admit we are struggling with payouts but you still wont concede that selling home games is a part of our solution.

Look at the evidence. Why is Hawthorn flying? Anything to do with selling home games to Tassie? Any reason why North, Richmond and St Kilda are all selling home games?

It's a catch 22; we are not profitable, so we sell games interstate to make some money, but will continue to lose ground here if we continue to sell games interstate.

How attractive are we if we only have 9 home games a year and most of them against other bottom, poor drawing clubs?

When do you draw the line and say, we are a Victorian club, we will play our home games in Victoria and not be part of the circuit where the highest bidder, each year, will secure our services?

You can't compare us to Hawthorn, they are a very successful club with a massive following, that's taken up residence for half the season about an hour and $100 away from here; it probably takes longer to get to Geelong than Tassie.

But they wouldn't know that, because unlike us, they never play there.

Hey chap, ever been to a Darwin game, I have, 3 of them, (not this year unfortunately life and a daughters wedding took priority), last time I was up there went to a local shop, we stay out of the city centre and shopkeeper (who was Asian) chatted happily to me about the footy, knew quite a bit about the Dees.....so sorry you are wrong.......by the way, I travel to quite a few games, and if you are talking proximity, how about living on the corner of Vic Parade and Hoddle St, is that close enough to the G.

Melbourne play in the AFL, much to WYL's disgust changed the name from VFL a few years ago

I , like everybody else, want the Club to succeed and get on a solid footing both on and off the field, so to quote Jim Stynes "whatever it takes"

Nupp..and dont want to. Good for you that you can and enjoy it.

How exaclty , really, does a game set against a backdrop of 7615 spectators do anything, except look desperate and ridiculous.

We need to build the relevance of this Club to this city and the potential AFL populous with an interest in following us...not dilute it.

We are also trying to do that as well, but have you thought that perhaps a person looking to support, seeks out information comes to this site and finds "supporters" doing nothing but bleat about the Club....anyway if you want to encourage new supporters, Nineteen is on a recruiting drive again for volunteers to ring out to members both old and new, feel free to come and join us

bb and wyl we are always going to be diametrically opposed on this one.

As I have argued numerous times in the past

Good teams will win anywhere and bad ones don't IMO it is that simple.

since the MFC has been going to Darwin we have struggled to beat time with a stick.

guess what we lose wether it is before at or after a trip to the NT.

What would your opinion be if tomorrow it was announced that the NT is to be our major sponsor

and they are tipping in $2miilion PA ?

WE need the money desperately guys end of story

you really think this site has any great relevance to anyone outside of US ? So many arguments spun about handfuls of numbers where the greatest influence and potential of Melbourne ..is right here in this city. You will be getting more ppl interested via Casey then you every will out of the Northern experiments.

That's the number they play to at Skoda, trying to build a market

and its looks just as desperate and ridiculous...thats the point.

They have a bottomless well of money over an infinite period of time. Hardly a comparison of merit

Well aware the VFL changed to the AFL in 1990.

How many members have been signed since 2010 in the NT?

The package is a money grab because the previous regime stuffed up.

We do not play for premiership points in the desert by choice.

happy to be corrected by I would think the increase of even 5000 extra at our gated games would eclipse the" rent money "

Mono has it...its all spin in regard to selling this

Plus the fact they are a "start up club" with no previous support; we are an established club with a dormant supporter base that will remain so as long as we make it unattractive to support us.

We can flounder around in Darwin, attracting no support and derision from the rest of the AFL supporters, or try to turn it around here and satisfy the 90% plus supporters that live here.

I don't have any issues with Darwin, but at the moment it doesn't seem to have done us a lot of good.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

Answer the question Satr.

What are the signed membership from the NT since 2010?

I haven't been to Etihad since 2005. Not enough leg room.

Apart from AC/DC

I know we do OD, thus compromising our chances of climbing the ladder.

The spin says it is about growing the game.

The reality is that the NT Government give us a truckload of $$$

But it does compromise the players on the field.

We have trashed this to death in the past mate.

I don't believe it does have any big effect on the players.

End for me as the two sides to this are never going to agree.

Have a good day guys.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
