AFL NATIONAL DRAFT - Pick 9

Featured Replies

Are we going for Bontempelli to pay Collingwood back for taking Freeman or do we genuinely think that he is better suited to our needs compared with (say) Salem?

Kinda like BP went for Lucas Cook to pay GCS back for picking Prestia & Tom Lynch..?

Collingwood and Brisbane are our biggest threats.

If we do miss out i want Luke Dunstan.

Christ!

I couldn't think of a bigger waste of pick 9.

Wouldn't it be easier to have traded pick 40 for Brock McLean??

It isn't exclusively Vic Kids, Polec (SA) & Yeo (WA) also headed home. Not enough resources put into the retention of and support for recruits

Yeah but most of the players leaving were Vic kids weren't they?

Thats what i was saying.

As much as Collingwood want Bontempelli, they are said to want Freeman with their other pick. I don't trust them!

And why should you trust the filth?!

So in other words you guessed..

Sorry but even his latest article has him at 182cm and he even looks it.

The latest article is still based on info from earlier in the year! No guess, when a guy looks you in the eye at the same height you just know!

If Freeman is as quick as what is reported I want him. I think we lack a fair bit of leg speed. If he is gone by pick 9 I'm not worried who Roos will pick as long as its a midfielder wo will get some game time this year and has the size to mix it with the bigger bodies

I must say, I am bemused that once again Fox Footy is not telecasting the Draft. Surely it is better TV than the constant replaying of the 2013 season, especially for Dees fans.

Even though the foxtel guide isn't listing it, I believe they still will

Fox did televise it last year and for a couple of years before that - they just made a poor fist of it. I'm sure they'll do it again but if they do I'll record it and listen to SEN instead.

Will they be doing the horrible 10 to 1 countdown again? Stupidest idea ever.

Not if they aren't broadcasting the event.

It was a stupid idea. Clearly came from the AFL.

Ah I have stood next to him for one, I am 186 and he was basically the same size. Also if you have listened to Kevin Sheehan he has said that he has grown 3cm since those stats were printed earlier in the year!

Haha. You can't tell someone's height relative to your own just by eyeballing them. Make a 3cm gap with your fingers and look at how small it is. Your brain would just ignore a difference that small when looking at something on the scale of another person, especially when you can't even see the top of the point of reference (yourself).

I agree with the assessment that you're just guessing.

How did this turn into a thread about how tall Demoneyes is?!

Chill.

Will they be doing the horrible 10 to 1 countdown again? Stupidest idea ever.

I believe the idiots have finally scrapped it - reported earlier in the year.

I planned to ditch the sports channels on poxtel after the draft (until Round 1).

I will be extremely miffed if it's not televised.

Couldn't imagine a more boring show.

Just follow it on the net.

I like it for seeing the reactions of players as they get drafted and hearing their first interviews in the AFL. After about pick 10 though, it gets pretty boring.

With Billy Stretch coming under notice for next year I doubt we will draft an outside type with pick 9. Knightmare has him at 9 in his 2014 power rankings on BF. Billy kicked 3 goals in one of the reserves finals for Glenelg. We also have Barry and Blease with outside pace. Most likely will go for an in and under type (a few available at pick 9) or a player who can run off half back with good prospects for developing into a mid. I will not be surprised to see us pick up Jones (if Freeman not available) as he has what we lack as a group - ferocious competiveness at ball and player - ie, what the top teams have. Jones would be a 'safe' pick.

There is no chance we'll pick Jones up at 9. If he's available for our 2 round, then maybe. Way too many more players with better upside will be available at 9. Fyi - played golf with a couple of coaches last weekend, who both reckon all clubs are far better informed than previous years in terms of which players other clubs will draft. They both mentioned that there is unlikely to be any major surprises amongst the first Rd draftees.

I would be very surprised and it won't happen. If we want ferocious then Crouch is the man, I think we already have it with Viney and Jones plus the new guys in Tyson, Michie and Cross don't take a backwards step from what I've seen.

We will be looking for talent inside/out, bit of size about him.

Quite possibly, but I would rather ditch or swap the channel now (better still a month ago) than find out on 29th that it's not on.

Thanks, cheers

I really hope we pick Freeman because if we do it means that we believe he can transfer his very desirable attributes to the AFL, he's the most exciting prospect.

However I won't be disappointed if we don't pick him if he's available because that probably means we have doubts.

If someone takes him before us I'll follow his progress with interest.

why would clubs be advertising who they want to pick. it's not in their interests

it is more in their interests to obfuscate and lie

i don't place any credence in these "rumours" except perhaps for the top 3

Obfuscate? I am unclear on the use of that word!

You can all go to Dee hell! He is 185 and that is that!

There's 3 or 4 good'ns .We cant really lose. :)

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
