On the point of sponsorship, I seem to recall that Schwab's critics were into him from day one when he arrived in the early days of the global financial crisis and we had no sponsors and no takers due to the poor economic outlook at the time. Given this, the team at Melbourne performed particularly well and worked hard in difficult conditions. Earlier this year, I was speaking to one of the people involved in attracting sponsors and he outlined the difficulties they encountered. This included some instances of roadblocks put in their way by the negativity surrounding the club at various times which made their job considerably more difficult.

I said this earlier WJ.

This is probably the hardest sales job in Melbourne right now.

A few on here make me laugh they must think finding a $million sponsor for the worst AFL club is easy.

Love to see a few give it a try.

5 years ago I was an assoc. dir for a Multi national company.

based in victoria.

I tried to persuade them to sponsor the dees in some way.

They did their due diligence and responded.

They didn't think that the Melbourne FC was the type we would want to associate our brand with..

I retired from the company 6 months later.

No big deal everyone is happy

I need a new car so can I place my order for a major car company as the MFC 2014 major sponsor?

Also planning an overseas trip as well so a travel agency will also be ideal for me.

Currently looking at solar energy, building maintenance, computer equipment, home entertainment systems etc.

So any good sponsors discounts would be appreciated, plus the MFC needs the cash.

If you ever need to hire a car don't forget about Hertz - they do a good deal (15% off if within Australia)

Indeed this is a great deal.

Pity I live in a Town without any car rental companies.

Perhaps we should chasing Pawn Brokers to sponsor us!

Any explanation beyond that Chippy?

May be it was a Ladies clothing company or one fully of Collingwood supporters

If this happened while Schwab was running the show there would be hell to pay.

No worries for Teflon Jackson and the bosses at the AFL. ...

When does accountability start?

It's the 17th of October.

I heard that both Range Rover and Mt Buller were looking at sponsorship deals with the MFC...I know it may sound like a stereotypical joke..but i heard that both are legitimate potential sponsors.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
