I see Jack as the kind if kid to forge is own name in MFC history, stir up his old man saying "gee there seem's to be more kids wearing 7 now then 12 in your day Dad". I am so excited to see what this kid does next year. Release the bull in the china shop!

Happy to see him make his own history with number 7.

I can recall him saying something similar not long ago... Or am I imagining it?

I hate hearing commentators constantly comparing sons of players to their fathers. I hope Jack continues in the number 7 and give 12 to an upcoming exciting recruit (from trade or draft).

P.S Edit the thread to make a poll please.

I remember that too, couldn't find a clip of it though.

If Cameron Schwab was still around you could bet your first born child on it happening.

He will likely have it offered to him in good faith (not persuaded), whether he chooses to accept it is the question.

Todd and Jack strike me as the kind of people that consider performance and output as the highest regard, not necessarily club history and tradition (don't take in a negative way). I can only guess that Todd will tell Jack to make his own path in his own number.

Either way I will be just happy watching Jack run around in the red and blue. :)

I hope Jack changes to number 1, we haven't had a great wear that jumper since Warnock.

You don't want to give Hoges a turn first?

I remember a quote from when we first "signed" him when he was 16 and he was asked what number he'd want and he replied with 24 as he was going to be twice as good as his dad.

Agreed Ignition,

Though CS probably wouldn't have cared as much as Todd wasn't from the 1950's but you know he would be busting at the seams to get Jack in Todd's number.

I don't think that will be an issue going forward. It seems like the club is now more interested in actually winning games now than celebrating what happened decades ago. And Jack is a fairly strong character.

Have Jack develop his own history in 7 and challenge a newcomer to live up to and outdo previous wearers of 12

2 hard at it ball getters challenging each other to make their mark in the club records.

I think there's been some pretty useful No7's as well

Brian Wilson......

Willo was the one I was thinking of

Not a bad standard to set

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
