Dean Kent 2014

People need to seriously stop overhyping and overrating this Dunstan kid.

It's ridiculous.

Have you even seen him play?

Does it really matter? It's not like anyone here is making our draft selections.

Very suriprised how good Kent was above his head. He leads well and got some toe. Another preseason and we may have a solid small. Love thebit of s$@t he has on his liver

Conversely, does it matter if I complain?

Awesome to see a tough, big bodied midfielder with so much pace and a magnificent kick.

He will be one of our best players soon enough, what a gun.

Anyone have any info on how Kent is progressing? Did he play in the VFL practice game on the weekend? I understand he had some knee issues earlier on in the pre-season but hasn't been named on the injury list for a while. Hope to see him in the senior team soon as he was fast becoming one of my favourites last year and will be a real weapon for us on the half forward line.

I wouldnt rely on Misson to keep us updated on relevant injury information.

He seems to have disappeared into a black hole -- is he mates with Mitch? Maybe sailed off into the west :-(((

Could have been pretty handy Saturday.

Played at Casey on the weekend. I would say that the coaching staff believe he needs more match fitness before a seniors berth. Seems fitness and match practise are a prerequisite of playing in the seniors this year.

Are you surprised?

The team couldn't even run out full games last year. They let the Dogs score 8 goals in 10 minutes for crying out loud! They were absolutely stuffed with 15 minutes left in the fourth. Happened all too often last year.

Not at all.

I agree entirely with the coaching staff requiring that all players can perform for the whole of a game.

I am sure when completely fit Kent will get his chance as will other players gaining fitness at Casey.

We need this kid in the team, he was brilliant as a rookie

Him and Viney will give us a huge boost

Only if they are fit.

Both need a game at Casey next week as a minimum IMO

id make Viney the sub vs WC

I don't believe either being rushed back will make us more or less likely to win, i think we need to let them get some game time at casey and make sure they're right for round 3 which is our next real winnable game

They won't rush Kent back. He has to make up a lot of fitness before they'll even look at him. The fact that he had an ongoing issue with his knee that just wouldn't heal will make them more cautious as well.

I think we need to bear in mind that this is only his second year in the AFL. Roos has repeatedly said he won't push the kids into games before they're ready, and this applies equally to our second year players as to the first years. Kent will be a very good player for us one of these days, but it's not going to be in the first half of season 2014.

Well he's been named.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
