The Successor

Sorry I don't follow this at all, you are correct there is no agreement other than the gentleman's agreement that the club permits the coach to move elsewhere. However there is still a contract and Sydney is well within their rights to point that out to Dew that he is under contract, and they were planning on extending it anyway.

Sure it's frustrating, but Roos and PJ don't seem to be pushing the issue further than it has gone, we just move on. If it's true that he made contact with us, and it wasn't the other way round, and no interview has taken place (as such a thing was blocked by Sydney) then the media's assertions that he was going to be annointed the successor is perhaps a little premature, he would have just been one of the candidates just like any of the others.

Kinda similar to the 2.7mil bailout package that is infact only 1.45mil... yet another thing the media got wrong it seems.

whats hard to follow

Either there is an agreement , gentleman's or none that any one seeking to promote themselves through another offer is free to do so.

The Job at the MFC is Senior coach in waiting, with a timeline etc. That would have to trump anything Sydney is offering therefor the ought to be free to pursue it.

Sydney cant have it both ways. i think it would be well within reason for the Vlad empire to clarify this , in the interests of all

I don't follow your reasoning on why the AFL needs to get involved with anything to do with this. My understanding is that the gentleman's agreement (and the rules regarding poaching coaches prior to the end of season) is something that the AFL coaching association deals with, it's not the AFL.

If Roos/PJ have backed away from talking to him after Sydney has claimed him as a required coach there isn't anything more to be done... he has a contract with them, and it's something that apparently they are looking to extend. If Dew feels like he is being hard done by he can always take it further.

We have no clue whether Sydney were preparing to offer Dew an increased role @ their club, and at the moment (successor aside) the MFC are offering a senior assistant role.

The Clarkson rumour has been floating around Perth for a month or so and I would not be surprised. Meth Coast are currently irrelevant in Perth and they don't like it.

They will want to climb back up again as quick as possible

If the Clarkson to WCE rumor turns out true you'd think Simpson would be fav to coach Haw.

Im just incredibly curious as to why Clarkson would be going .

After his time at Melbourne, Clarkson is finding all the success at Hawthorn hard to handle.

Or so I've heard. :)

This is just a comment on the contract situation not the whole discussion

The AFL won't step in over contract disputes - Courts of Australia will decide who's right and wrong not the AFL

Generally speaking AFL as discussed by you guys clubs let coaches break their contracts to pursue opportunities to get senior jobs - Clubs can technically hold individuals to their contracts as long as they are entitled to enforce them....

Sydney are clearly [censored] with the Dees - AFL won't step in... end of story

Because he has a contract with Sydney. A gentleman's agreement isnt' a binding agreement, and TBH why would the AFL give a damn about coaching contracts?

Anyway, it's a non issue and not really on topic.

Because the AFL has in its own way been trying to give us a leg up. Its in THEIR interest

I agree mate... I just think in this situation it is relevant as the Swans are upset with Roosy and it seems (from my limited knowledge) they are enforcing Dew's contract

Will be interesting to see what happens

They have already given us a leg up with the 1.45mil and PJ. If it's not in their interest to give us a PP, why would they care about letting Dew have an interview.... I don't disagree with you as such, more that I think you are overestimating the interest that the AFL should/do have in this.

Only thing further I'll say on this is that I agree with your comment that Colless has a double standard here. On one hand he says Roos is breaching a gentleman's agreement in talking to Lloyd Perris, on the other he doesn't seem to be upholding the gentleman's agreement in regards to allowing Dew to talk to us.

While I Want other clubs hating us because we're ruthless, I don't want to be known as the elite club who has to go crying to the AFL bigwigs when we don't get our way.

I want them to hate us because people want to come to us, both players, coaches and officials. I want them to hate us because we are elite, both on and off the field.

George Stone has an extraordinary record for development, and is a huge bonus for the MFC. He IS a lock for the MFC, and my source is the only person in his world who is a little unsure how they'll cope with him being back home full time. :)

Tell her that George's job at Melbourne will keep him at the club for long, long hours getting this ship back on course.

Ross Lyon was contracted to St Kilda when he left for Freo.

Are you sure this is correct?? I thought Craig Kelly his manager was negotiating with St Kilda at the time, and was all but certain that Lyon would re-sign with the saints. Hence why Garry Lyon didn't push further when he asked CK whether there would be any chance of getting Ross to the MFC, and why the Saints were blindsided when the presser in Freo took place.

Happy to be corrected though.

They were negotiating for an extension.

He had 1 year left on his contract, and St Kilda at the time were copping criticism for letting it get to that point when he was clearly one of the best coaches in the game

That's how I remember it. Haven't checked old articles to confirm.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
