I can' t see us getting a star mid in a trade, maybe a couple of good ones but not a star.

I think we will have to draft our star mids and improve Viney and Toumpas and Blease.

I think we will get a star mid in the trade, now that Roos is on board they will want to play under him, especially if we have a priority pick to trade.

Sloane, Martin, Swallow, Thomas, young Selwood, Adams, Yarran,maybe an Essendon player like a Zaharakis. One or two of these would be sensational.

We have pick 2 and if a club wants either Aish or Scharenberg then they get a direct win out of the trade and obviously the two Adelaide clubs would be more interested in that scenario.

What do they have that would fit the No.2 value so we get a win out of it.

Forget Danger and Boak and Hartlett - they are not negotiable.

But Adelaide has Sloane - a tough, hard-running, tackling 23-year-old who fits the Roos-style of midfielder - eg: O'Keefe, McVeigh.

Given he was pick 44 Adelaide would feel they would have a win out of obtaining pick 2.

And I suspect we'd feel we get a win out of a mature ready-to-go midfielder who we know can play and one who has at least six more years of good footy left in them.

The only issue is that he's contracted until 2015 and may actually love Adelaide!

Bit to me that's the type of player we need if we don't go down the more predictable route of drafting a kid and hoping they become a star.

The first few picks in a draft are gold and a very good player like Sloane is not worth say pick 2. Therefore unless there was other consideration I couldn't see us doing this sort of deal.

As for a star, Cotchin, Selwood, Ablett, O'Meara, Boak, Pendlebury, Beams etc are stars. None of them would be cleared for pick 2.

It is very difficult, but this coach has done it with the Josh Kennedy's and Ted Richard' of this world. that is the way we will probably go.

Identify a couple of very good mids and make a play. Draft some more mids and a couple of small forwards. Identify players not getting a run who he thinks can develop. Improve and develop our own.

I thought that we would get a mid first or end first round priority. After the presser I would not be surprised if we get pick no. 1 on the basis that it be traded for players only or forfeited. At least all clubs could then bid for Boyd. GC would be interested for sure!!. Would add a lot of interest to trade week.

From what i've seen Watts does not go hard enough to be a midfielder, although could be a good prospect

I agree that up until now Watts hasn't shown that he could be a midfielder. But that was when we had sub-standard coaching and development. It's possible he may never make a midfielder but he has the speed and the skills - just needs to get hardness and desire (and probably a higher level of fitness).

In short, I'm hopeful that under this new regime players will improve in so many ways. Watts improving to be a quality midfielder is my main individual hope.

the best way i could see this working is if we are going to trade pick 2 to adelaide, then we would be getting sloane and another 1 and maybe a late draft pick.

so i imagine something like sloane and mckernan (who wants to leave) and pick 30 something. we offload pick 30 something and mckernan to a club like carlton or someone who wants a forward and get a mid/forward off them?

or the real best option will be trading pick 2 for dale thomas, who if he decides he wants to leave would be an amazing option to trade for, which would mean we could draft daniel cross and that would be helpful also

We are in a good position because Roos does not know what a No 1 pick looks like. He will trade the low pick/s for a really good player and turn our late picks into good grunt men.

GWS already have enough talent, without needing to secure a 2nd of the games 4 pre-eminent power forwards.

They really don't need any more assistance. To get clearly the best player in this draft also would be rubbing it in.

Kinda like GoldCoast having Ablett, Prestia, Bennell and O'Meara then being able to add Jack Martin.

Come on - how dominant do they want them to be??

Also, there are plenty of clubs like the bulldogs or saints who are going to continue to founder without a good forward to straighten them up a bit in the coming years.

Not sure I'd want to risk pick No.2 on 27-year-old Daisy who has a serious foot injury.

As I said, if we do trade pick No.2, we would want a young Roosy-style running player in the 20-24yo bracket.

As for Cross, we would be able to pick him up as a free-agent if we wanted him, which I very much doubt given he is the equivalent stupidity of drafting Rodan - although I accept he might be a better player - but he is 30 and we are a developmental side!

i was trying to work out a trade in my head for both st kilda and western bulldogs and it is near impossible

pick 1 with st kilda for armitage or jack steven but no way they would give them up?

We lack depth more I believe. You named one established, good midfielder and two up and comers.

The rest are either not up to it or not good enough (possibly Sylvia excepted).

We need at least 10 midfielders who can do their role and aren't substandard players.

Roos said he 'May', think about trading Pick 2, for "a couple of Mids". my take is he means he wants more than one mid, & if he can get 2 for the price of 1, then maybe he'd deal.

..... what about young Selwood & Gaff for our Earliest Pick, + a player? if we got priority Pick 1, then it may be handy for someone who wants a Tall Power forward? or other young gun?

i think we will definitely love a player like cross on our list, it would give us much needed midfield leadership cost us nothing and could be groomed as an assistant coach (gws model)

he is nothing like rodan, different players, different abilities, different skills, very different people!

I never really agreed with the inclusion of rodan as i feel like he was past his time but cross could play 2-3 more years i think

i would think if we could bring in daisy and someone else from collingwood with pick 2 and cross in our midfield, it will definitely improve our list.

That does make sense, as it gives all of the other clubs the chance to get Boyd, which would appeal to them.

If GWS have the pick they will probably keep it.

The other clubs would think, "well, if we wanted to get Boyd from GWS we would trade X anyway, so who cares if X goes to Melbourne".

Jones averaged 23.1 disposals per game in 2013, which is ranked 51st in the competition.. our next is Magner at 108, Terlich at 119, Sylvia 127, M.Jones 129. Trengove as a pick 2 in his 4th season came in at 170th.

So you look at that and it is obvious we are STAGGERINGLY deficient in terms of 'blokes that get a lot of the ball'!

I would go as far as to suggest we should trade BOTH our early picks to get 2 or 3 solid midfielders in, it will make an immediate and signifigant difference.
