Winning Culture

With all the talk recently of potentially getting a priority pick i have been thinking quite a bit about how much more valuable it would be for us to win 2-3 more games this year, if we beat GWS, Gold Coast and the Bulldogs which i think is realistic, then we go into pre season with some confidence and momentum, the boys get to taste a few wins and it might just be the boost we need to hang on to a few of the out of contract boys.

if we're going to go through with a total club rebuild and reculture we need to set the correct mind set right now and make sure we carry that from here on out, Win at all costs.

there is no reason that we can't see a Port Adelaide like revival next season, we recruit a couple of free agents, more talent from the draft and the natural improvement that our young list would gain from another pre season under a new experienced coach with a focus on player development.

I would happily trade pick 1 for 3 wins before the end of the year.

As i am a huge fan of Charlie Sheen's work i can't find myself agreeing to him being President, his actions would make sense and sensibility is hardly the imagine of a modern political icon.

There is no rule anymore that means a certain amount of wins will mean you don't get a PP.

Did you know that?

We can beat GWS, GC and WB and it will not change the fact that we do not have a midfield and we need assets (high draft picks) to do what you said in that last paragraph - trade for, and recruit talent to turn us around.

And it doesn't mean you are trading Pick 1 for those wins, I would ask for picks 10 and 20 if pick 1 is off limits.

We have been a lead weight on the comp these last two years. It needs us to be better, the AFL requires us to have draft assistance.

if we win three more games and finish on five wins and jump ahead of Stkilda and the Bulldogs it would imo put some doubts in the minds of the people making the decision, yes odds are it's already been made regardless of what we do on field, but surely the details of that pick could change, even 2 and 3 wouldn't be worth half of what 1 is this year.

but we can't look at it like that is what i am saying, we have to win at all costs, establish the right culture and stop mucking around looking for the next big thing out of the draft.

Yes RPFC dead right..The two things can be mutually exclusive.

I have no doubt Craig is actually trying to win. There has been a shift in the appearance of resolve about the team.....just no too much on the scoreboard to date.

But thats what I suppose winning cultures are about....

Interesting though ..Its a bit chicken and egg. Is it simply that as a team wins the culture of the place is honed around it in such a way that it feeds upon itself this creating this mythical "Winning Culture"

or is it something that apparently is able to be purchase down at the market , aisle 3 top shelf, add water and football club, stir and instantly you have a "winning culture " about the place.

All these new teams etc have surely gone about creating this Winning Culture and have had opportunity to do so from the get go but its obviously not as simple as good intents etc.

Im not sure about this obsession with culture, maybe Les Patterson could explain it better

Id settle for just the Winning bit

I suppose everyone has a different opinion on what it is, culture seems like the popular word at the moment but i am big on the idea that success creates success, the right environment will give us the best chance to get the best out of our players and staff, make others want to come on board, help us retain the talent we already have and so on, and the best environments are those of the teams that always find a way to win, Sydney and Geelong.

In a bigger picture sort of way i think that is what we need to strive for because you can bring in all the talent in the world, but if you can't develop it or hang onto it you won't win any premierships in a hurry.
