Queens Birthday Round Dees v Filth

This has been on my mind for awhile. For too long we have taken it for granted it will be a lock.

But looking back at Sheedys idea to make their ANZAC day mean something special that didnt take away the meaning of why we celebrate the ANZACS.

We should make more the the QB game every year.? Stamp it forever as a Melb V Coll.

Off the cuff, my thought of something like a pre game of 2 halves (15 mins each 1/2?) of past Melb & Coll players. Money raised to go to a charity(one year we get to choose, then the following year the filth get their nomination) maybe the Reach Foundation one year, another charity next time.

Its no doubt our biggest home game of the year, thanks to Eddie it has remained. But we should take it upon ourselves to also use it for an advantage for ourselves and the filth, and also help raise funds for charity.

I'm over big brass bands and the like, anyone got any suggestions?

Perhaps they could show old Movietone newsreels on the big screen (for example, the Coronation, Prince Philip feeling up young girls, Prince Charles entering Timbertop etc) and then a rousing chorus of God Save the Queen before the main feature (the game) starts. That could be followed by the players running through the banner carrying the newest royal baby and then using it for a few hand ball drills before handing it back to William and Kate who could then oversee the toss of the coin.

That should cement the fixture for some time to come.

Failing that, if it is found that Republican sentiment is running a little too high, perhaps we could have a really cool cover band playing heaps of really great songs like We Are the Champions (urghhh), Bohemian Rhapsody (urgggghhhhhhh), etc etc and show nothing but Freddy Mercury film clips on the big screen.

Here's a novel idea for next year.....an MFC win

I think that just might lock it in 'Sat'.

Many more uncompetitive, uninteresting games and it's goodbye to Queens Birthday no matter what other side show elements you want to add.

bring back the centre wickets & have Pre game Mud Wrestling... & complimentary 3D binoculars

We could host a Mardi Gras. Great for tourism. Imagine 10,000 Sydney Queens descending on the town. We can have a Queens parade for pre game entertainment

Now there is no heritage round because it's not as good for the brand as nice marketing campaigns such as Indigenous round, multicultural round and womens round I think we could make it a designated heritage game like the dream time game.

Considering both teams have worn the same jumpers for years on end we could just wear the retro styled same jumpers but then use the game to honour past players of both sides. Maybe go decade by decade and play a short documentary of significant matches over the years between the clubs. Maybe get 2 past players to toss the coin. Maybe encourage the crowd to dress in the era celebrated? I'm just brain storming.

Us winning and fans turning up are the main thing though. If it's 70+k and a heated match that will be a good start.

I don't think there's any royal connection to QBday that will really sell it unless we can draft Prince George in 18 years time.

we could all get up in our elizabethan finery

half time entertainment with some tudor style stake-burning beheading drawing and quartering

after the game we could then put buck's and cloke's head on a pole outside parliament gates

just love all this royalist stuff

Would be good if people simply took the opportunity to waste their public holiday by turning up before Collingwood grow tired of being generous and switch to playing in front of 90,000 against Richmond instead.

Equally as important would be the MFC opposing any possible push for an Australian Republic...

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
