Had to laugh when reading this story from the Herald Sun today, a ' cool secret things' of Melb town fluff piece.

Check out the lazy guy using the concierge service (or is it that he's desk bound for 4 to 6 weeks with a mystery injury?)

Heres the article:

Anyone spotted any other ex-MFC players in obscure or unlikely scenarios lately?

Thought it may have been an update on Mitch Clark.......or Chris Dawes.......or Jack Grimes......or Jack Viney...........or...............

But the real question is can the lady in the photo actually play in the midfield?

I remember him. Came to the club at pick 15 and with big wraps All Australian center half forward captain of SA. Was ment to be our next full forward after Neitz.. but from what i remember Neale Daniher just wouldnt play him. Play in our last final game against freo in 2006. We had no ruck options as Jamar broke his foot the week before. He was seriously a massive unit and i do remember his VFL form was quite strong just wasnt given a go.

I was at that Freo Game.

Not a good night for the MFC. I hate losing to Freo at anytime and with 20 Freo supporter to every 1 of the MFC's. So I just had to sing the MFC theme song louder at the start of the game.

What was his name?

He had a pretty ordinary run with injuries (hence the nickname) so I doubt that Daniher didn't play him by choice. When fit, he'd have a good game at Sandy then not get near it for a month.

Had pretty good hands & could clunk marks but lacked athleticism IMO. He had the biggest turning circle of any Melbourne player I've seen since John Tilbrook

Played for Balwyn in the EFL after Melbourne. Might have got a flag or two and eventually captained them. Not sure if he's still going around.

Also suffered in development behind Nick Sautner at Sandringham. But I think the big problem was his constant four to six week injuries that never got him off the ground.

Matthew Bate I also used to call the Titanic due to his cumbersome turning circle...

426 but his nickname was Nick Smith.

Sorry he was never in real competition with Sautner.

Smith was just another in the long line of 1st round picks that MFC has stuffed up.

He was a forward paying in the same team as Sautner. Whether he was any good doesn't have anything to do with whether he was in competition with Sautner, as they would have played the same position. In a stand alone tram he would have had dinner moor opportunity to develop. Would that have changed the out come? Probably not.

He played KPF and KPB and Sautners presence had little to do with his outcomes. And they did not play the same positions. If anything Miller and Newton competed more with Sautner up forward.

The actual fact was that Smith was not good enough for AFL and was another 1st round wasted pick

Cheers Rhino. Just add him on the pile of "shouldn't have picked him up" with the rest of them.

to be fair, Smith looked really good early on, he played two games in his first year and was quick, nimble with strong hands. After his knee troubles, his pace and mobility were never the same. Injury had a lot to do with him not succeeding.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
