Don McLardy resigns

Featured Replies

Thank you Don, it must have been extremely difficult at times. I wish you well and hope we all see the on field success we crave.

Yes the Health of Geoff Freeman bothers me...i first read it a few weeks back.

We need strength not more health scares...no offense Geoff at all.

it is concerning, I wonder who's going to be on Jeffs ticket, interesting times, and mouth pieces like RPFC thought it was going to be a smooth transition with Freeman, he doesn't even know if he wants the job, I would say Jeffs ticket is more than a pipe dream.

Why in hell did Freeman come on to this board if he's not committed to be the next president.

We don't need an egg we need the bacon. Fully committed no excuses.

Can we have a full blown presidential election at the end of this year. Two tickets head to head and a proper decision.

If it is true, others should follow suit.

I fully agree with Robert Walls player de-listings.

I would like to add to the calls of thanks & best wishes to Don McLardy. He was bequeathed an unenviable task which only got harder as time passed. As an ordinary member, I was always confident that Don had the best interests of MFC at heart despite whether one agreed or disagreed with his Board's actions & our current travails. We should all appreciate his efforts as a true Demon.

Hanging on my office wall, I have my certificate for being an MFC member for 10 consecutive years (which I received after 18 years of continuous membership!) It is signed by Don McLardy, Cameron Schwab & Mark Neeld. Will it become a collectors' item?

i think Jeff is deadly serious...i want to know who is to be on his ticket.

I would love for you to find the post where I said Freeman would take over the Presidency. I have said he would be a number of options.

But you are right that I said we would have a smooth transition with McLardy stepping down without the need for a spill.

Very pleasing to see the positive comments for a Demon who gave his time and effort for the club.

The renewal continues.

Thank you Don for performing the role with dignity and for putting your effort, time and resources into the club. You stepped up at a time of great tumult for the club and performed the role as best you could in difficult circumstances.

As for those who have been disgraceful in their comments about Don and are now saying he has done the right thing in stepping down and thanking him, I reckon you should have a good long hard look at yourselves - you know who you are - are maybe take a spell yourselves.

Sack Spargo now!

Seriously, I applaud McLardy. He had the worst job in the world (maybe 2nd worst - Neeld got the worst) and all those who wanted him out should still appreciate his efforts.

Is this a good thing?

Nope. Another old school CV-based appointment that makes absolutely no sense in managing a footy club, other than it'll undoubtedly impress his grey haired mates in the Long Room.

This is the very reason we have been inept as a club for the last 40 years.

See ya Don, your time was up

Stuart Grimshaw stepped down as well

good, keep em coming, out with mediocrity, something has to give

See ya Don, your time was up

Eloquent and heartfelt

The cheap seats have spoken, by not turning up to games , respects meant to work both ways.

For the good of the club he had to step down and for all that he made a number of mistakes he tried to do his best for the club in difficult circumstances.

I wanted Don gone. I'm pleased he's stepped down, but I appreciate all he's given to this club over the last few years. He stepped in to help the club in a dire period and provided us with much needed stability. Seems like a passionate guy and I thank him greatly for his services to the club. I hope he can relax now and enjoy the football, without the burden of being President.

He has left the club in a much worse state than he found it. Applaud him for trying but life's tough. In the end wash up he was no where near good enough. Enjoy whatever your next journey may be Don. Cheers for having a dip at trying to get the club off the ground.

His biggest mistake in my eyes: concentrating on getting off field right and then thinking that all footy department / on field would fall into place. Neither worked.....

Schwab, McLardy and Neeld in a short time. Satyriconhome: "everything going fine"

The Seats are emptying...Good, sorry it should have occured a lot sooner..The Club is where it is because Bad Decisions were made to cover others.

Meanwhile all our money is gone...Don you are a nice guy, but you have left a mess, you should have put your hand up earlier.

My opinion will rile a few of you, so be it. Our Present situation should never have happened. It has.

If it wasn't fror the supporters speaking up CS would still be the CEO.

Everyone must go....we need the full transfusion.

Heart was never truly in it, thanks for trying though Don. Many wouldn't.
Thanks for having the guts to stand down and do what is the best for club. Many also wouldn't.
Best of luck with your future endeavours and keep up the great work you do with the Reach Foundation!

MMM saying neeld will be gone around round 17.

Obviously speculation from them???

These blokes are no longer journalists who report the news. They now are trying to create the news themselves.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
