For the same reason we want to spend pick 2 for Rockliff, Shuey, et al.

Skip the dev stage, give the bloke a role and watch him become a star.

I would trade him an established mid, but he has the skills to be Ryan O'Keefe. Get Roos to help him with his finger that's up his arse and get him to work hard off a wing/hff.

I can see where you're coming from with this comparison, rpfc, but IMO Howe's field-kicking is nowhere near O'Keefe's. Work-rate and discipline can be worked on, but field-kicking has that ceiling.

why the un-love for Howe ?

He really looks like a ROK type player...

Would anyone be happy with pick 2 and Howe for shiel and gws 2nd round pick (19/20)

No.

Pick 2 for Shiel is pretty much correct weight.

I would have thought so...No need for embellishing or dealing past the sale .

No need for Howe in that. A fairer deal would be:

Pick 2 for Sheil and pick 20

but I'd be happy with sheil for pick 2.

how about pick 2 and Blease, Tapscott, Bail, Pedersen, Jetta and Nicholson thrown in for good measure ?

( hell I WOULD throw in #20 if that got that deal through..lol )

thats right, the last time we allowed one of our players be exploited by our marketing brains-trust, we almost destroyed his career before it even started.

Ohhhh so now it's the marketing team's fault Watts has struggled.... FMD

Dear Dylan

Melbourne Football Club is pleased to offer you a 5 year $500,000 a year (total $2.5million) offer to join us as we embark on re-energizing our club. With Paul Roos leadership, you will form a vital part of a new midfield, alongside Nathan Jones, Jack Viney, Jimmy Toumpas and Jack Trengove. You will play footy on the might MCG, and help us rise once more to excite our loyal supporters.

The Melbourne Football Club would see you as a future leader and a key part of our future.

If only our club had this conviction.

Make a stand with pick 2 , get guys like this or take it to draft

strait swap Howe for Shiel?

How do you know they haven't?

strait swap Howe for Shiel?

Sheil for pick #2 and keep Howe [for Sheil to kick to]

Frawley for Shiel Simple really! He wont sign so off he goes to GWS!

Its time all at MFC stopped having love-ins over players they are just a means to an end in a ruthless competetive business enviorement

The important thing here is the clubs' future not about any indivigual player

If Frawley wont sign then trade him don't wait and lose the opportunity

when did people fall out of love with Jeremy Howe?

He was our bloody leading goal kicker this season in an area that the ball rarely came down into and when it did it was kicked atrociously?!

Will be much better with some key forwards on the park to take much of the focus off of him.

Get a clue people.

I don't think anyone wants to get rid of him because they (we) think he's rubbish. It's more about the fact he has currency and is surplus to our needs up forward. If he can develop into a genuine midfield role I'd prefer to keep him, but I don't see it - he's more of a forward flanker type, something we have an over-abundance of.

Agree

I support the club not the player - don't get me wrong love Frawley and he's a gun.

THis club will remain a [censored] kicker until it gets ruthless in all aspects of it's operations

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
