Jack Trengove

The pressure of captaincy aside, his lack of pace is that bad now that I cannot see him playing at AFL level.

Leading out from the goal square he was trailing his opponent by five metres who took an uncontested mark.

I've banged on about this a lot, but I just can't see where he goes to from here. Maybe he needs an extended spell in the VFL just to get some touch back?

people will blame the captaincy

fact he hes a very average footballer

should be at Casey

he missed 8 weeks of pre season

he cant have the fitness to impact the game as much as he would like yet.

I suggested something similar to this this week and the thread got locked. Don't disrespect our Captain. His on-field performance isn't important. It's what happens at the press conference that counts.

Evans, a late rookie pickup coming off 2 years of injury is worlds ahead of Trengove right now.

He's slow at the start of the game, nothing to do with fitness.

he was never the quickest player, but he doesnt look that slow early, but rather as the game progresses

No, he is slow from the moment his feet hit the MCG turf.

personally i dont agree, but if you are expecting him to be one of the quickest players on the field then he isnt quick

You're right but neither are Selwood, Hayes, Mitchell, Sewell and Kennedy but there is some explosiveness to how they play.

Trengove doesn't need to be quick, the problem is he is now beyond slow and the limitation is so great he is now next to useless.

the first sentence was my next post, but i just think he is underdone, and that they are playing him in the forward line to build his fitness and almost play the forward pressure role.

and i think that his lack of full pre season gets highlighted as the match goes on, and hopefully as his fitness builds he can move into the midfield and then we will see the trengove of old!

people saying hes underdone

did you not watch him in 2012?

he was garbage all season

I will take the word of Cameron Ling who said he wasn't in his first 2 years. Ling would have a better idea because he played against him. Both he and Watson think something is wrong and I'm going with them on this, something is clearly wrong.

Look, he's either injured or he has inexplicably aged ten years. I don't get it but his pace is totally gone. If it's not an injury, he's simply genetically very unlucky to have lost all his pace this quickly. Captaincy worries or not, you don't lose so much speed unless there's seriously something wrong with your body.

I am a huge fan of him, but he is clearly not 100% because of the captaincy, or injury or both, he needs to go to the VFL til he is dominating games, get the bloke his fitness and confidence back, he is still a long term prospect for us but something is clearly not right,

looks abit like osteitis pubis

I can't see how much longer we can persist with a captain who has zero impact in a match. He even was missing his trademark tackle count today. Without that he's providing literally nothing.

It is so bloody obvious who the best leader out there is and his name is Nathan Jones.

As Ling pointed out, he's not the player he was. I for one don't believe he's anywhere near fit.

The year is farked. Playing him like this achieves no useful purpose. Take him out until at least the bye - call it a groin injury or whatever - but get him on a specific training program that allows him to recapture his fitness & whatever acceleration he had in his first two years.

He won't like it but playing in the condition he's in at the moment does neither he nor the team any favours

They also mentioned that they have to keep playing him because he is the Captain.

He needs to be at senior level.

hell be right.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
