I always look at the 22 and count how many uncomfortable smirks I give - meaning how many players do I read their name and think 'gee, dunno about that guy just yet.. think he's a bit of NQR' this includes young players who may well develop into something but right now, in a match tomorrow, they are not particularly valuable.

We have Clark, Dawes, Jetta and Viney unavailable

How many of the 22 give you that uneasy feeling? No need to name them.. but go right ahead if you want

Centreline Jack Trengove Colin Sylvia Sam Blease

It's a very poor list, I would swap it for every other list in the AFL. As bad as Fitroy in their final years. A lot of people are talking things up after last weekend, but remember they were three goals down and looking terrible until GWS came to a stand still.

I'm sorry, but it's not a poor list. There are a lot of un-mined gems in our list. Poor development of our talent has been the down-fall. It's far from irreversible though.

I use to run my eye's over the Collingwood list during the 2009 season and enjoy how average they looked. However, brilliant coaching, and the best player development in the league changed that. I guarantee Dayne Beams would be currently absolutely average under Melbourne's previous tutelage.

We are capable of a sharp rise up the ladder. Poor fitness from the Bailey era, shocking training facilities (which has been addressed) from the Junction Oval era, a couple of spud draft picks. However, there is obvious talent on our list, just undeveloped.

If a couple of our players had a good voice in their ear, good training, clever strategy, we could prove a lot of doubters wrong. Especially, f#$%in' Purple and Durr Durr Darcy. Oops, anger boiling over.

maybe it's you that's weird, ever think of that?

yep thought about it and the boss said its not me thats weird.

i keep saying the judgement of this list should be held AFTER 2014.

more games , another preseason and we will see where this list stands

Most of what used to be the next AFL superpower is still there only add clark, dawes, viney and toumpas to it,

all of this years draft picks look really good which is a very welcome change

and then HOGAN!

personally i think we have as much upside as gold coast, just not sure how we will go developing it.

It's a good team of schoolboy superstars with no confidence nor the capacity to take it up to flying AFL sides.

They'll get their eventually but confidence is low for this team to play well when it truly matters.

Until they start showing up against teams that are more than 2 years old, I'll lack confidence.

Sunday's win was fun but I quickly came back to reality and realised that if it were 2010, we'd have won only 1 game out of the past 26 and Neeld would most certainly be out of a job.

IMO GC and GWS have saved his job.

But it's not 2010, so that's a pointless thing to say.

We can only play who we play, we can only beat who we beat, and Neeld can't go back or forward in time, he's stuck with the present.

Let's wait and see what happens from here. It will only take one or two wins against better clubs to make people believe that the path is there and we're on it (I'm not saying we are, nor that this will happen, I'm saying that this wil be the view people take if we happen to beat a better club than us).

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
