The Week Ahead

What are everyone's predictions for what I'm sure is going to be a long week for the Dees.

I'm predicting a stack of TAFE and centrelink applications

Same as last week. Nothing will happen, but everyone will talk about how shitty we are.

Apparently first thing Monday morning, all members of the Board, Neeldy/the FD and the whole playing group are all off to the movies to enjoy OBLIVION

I expect there'll be plenty of focus on Watts being subbed off......... Might as well have painted a huge bullseye on Jack whilst pulling leaves and bushes over the rest of the farce

Nothing will happen. Nothing.

No one will bother to talk about us.

No one will do anything different.

We'll be told to "stick with it".

And at the end of the week, we'll be smashed by the Eagles.

Here's a hint that nothing will happen AGAIN...

Jack Grimes: "We just weren't good enough..."

Wow.

In fact, cross off "stick with it" already... Jack Grimes, post-game.

Jack Grimes: "We just weren't good enough..."

Wow.

He was absolutely shattered in that video. You cannot question his commitment, and that's something positive at least.

By the way, has anyone noticed that this week's party-line catch-phrase is "It wasn't good enough." Last week it was "we didn't see this coming" (said by Jack Watts, Jack Grimes and Mark Neeld), and this week it's "It wasn't good enough" (said by Mark Neeld and Jack Grimes so far).

* What should happen is Neeld to take over the midfield coachs role for the week (he was meant to be the best at this caper whilst at Collingwood) and focus on nothing else.

* Neeld should delegate the rest of his duty's to Craig for the week.

* The Dee's should invite Dermie, Carey or Neitz to work with the forwards for the week (put them in charge and give our forwards the benefits of a positive experience learning from champions of the game - pretty sure our forward coaches are not people who commanded awe and respect on the footy field during ther playing careers)

* Rawlings to take the backline back to the basics of one on one defence (not zoning), teach them to practice treading on the heel of their opponent (figurately speaking, although I had a player do this to me literally once for the entire game, and it was probably the worst I ever played). Maybe involve Viney Senior to teach them toughness and possibly introduce a bit of nastiness.

* Royal should be sent back to Casey, to assist with their coach and ensure that all the players (casey listed players as well) are AFL ready

and the word "Rebuild" should never, ever be mentioned again!!!!! if you accept this as your objective then this is what you will play for, they should be going out with the attitude "WE WILL SHOW THEM, F#CK THEM, WE ARE THE BEST, WE WILL WIN, WE WILL WIN THE COMP" If this is the attituded then the results will follow. I have always found that even if you start with an unrealistic dream, that the more you focus on it, it will soon become a goal and then reality!

Give the players something to beleive in, not a gameplan, structures or performance measures; but a WIN and WINNING! It's something that will mean something to the entire list, and something that they will play for, it is what creates desire.

Can we organise to have all the players get a Demonland profile this week for a bit of supporter interaction adn feedback? ;)

Neeld needs to read some winston Churchill quotes, worst speech ever heard, absolutely putrid.

one thing this week is 100% guaranteed.....

we wont hear from schwab

There are some excellent points here and I hope some of these kinds of options are being considered by the club. Obviously Neeld looks to be in a bad way so although its not considered the 'done thing' it just seems like Craigs level headedness and experience needs to take control...and Neeld needs to divert his attention to the mids. This would be a a good outcome for us withe roles better aligned to the skill sets.

I can see how a lot of afl players can have depression.

I think half the players will stat in bed for the hole week.

Some excellent reading there Ungari.

Really good. Should happen.

Right now the corpse is dead and cold.

Thanks, and this does not need to be seen as an excercise of losing or removing control from Neeld. In reality he should use this type of approach as a means for taking RESPONSIBILITY, clearly our midfield is struggling and needs help and it's an area he can make a difference!!!

Long week? It's going to be a long year...

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
