After all our priority draft picks, rebuilding, trading free agents and letting go a variety of first round picks, how many of our current list is up to AFL standard? Let me list them 1-10 on current performance, and 1-10 in three years time.

Let's first talk about the 22 who played on Sunday

Of those who have been traded or let go and have gone to other clubs, these are how i would catagorise them:

Brent Maloney 8 8

Jarad Rivers 8 8

Jordon Gysberts 5 7

Jamie Bennell 4 7

Carl Morton 4 8

On this basis, we have 36% of the players who played last saturday were below AFL standard, and of our total list 43% of players are below AFL standard. of the overall list,on this basis we don't have any elite (9 or 10) player but by 2016, of the players currently playing I predict over 20% will be elite. This means the list currently is heading for the wooden spoon this year and in three years time we will be mid list knocking on the 8.

Are we all satisfied with this situation??

Who is ready to lift thier heads and keep running when the opposition score a few against us?

The psyche of the team needs addressing. We continue to play like losers.

Was it just me or did anyone else notice how often the Port forwards were able to turn our backline inside out, turn back and head towards goal? Was like they had no boot grip or able to get traction at times.

I would not condemn players until they have been given the opportunity of good coaching - J Rivers looked pretty good today for his first game at a new club (and probably the best club in the league at the moment) - in fact, Rivers' play reminded me of how he played when he first came to us!

Sellar and Nicholson dropping marks, Gillies and Garland being unprepared to take marks, Watts getting two kicks etc etc had nothing to do with coaching and IMO we make far too many excuses for players not accepting responsibility. They players were prepared, Jones was jumping out of his skin, raring to go so we heard, but when it was time to party they were limp. Neeld mentions 3 acceptable playing performances for the day.

Coaching on the day wont change a 70 point hammering like that.

Not thrilled at all with the concept of the players calling the shots or exerting influence on coaching matters. I would just like them to consistently be competitive and win games of football, nothing else.

I was not referring to any of what you have mentioned - I was referring to coaching developing young players, NOT players telling coaches what to do! A good coach will develop all players to the best of their ability - Neeld is not that coach.

Viney and Matt Jones did ok , where were Silvia and Jamar ( and there were other more experiences players who have played under numerous coaches)?

The only players that would get a game at a top 8 side are:

Jones

Watts

Frawley

Clark

Sylvia

Blease

Howe

Even grimes as a midfielder is not up to it. Too slow and has zero penetration in his kicking.

The club will go no where with a midfield including jamar, Mckenzie and grimes. No where.

Watts?

Sylvia?

Surely you jest?

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
