I found this on the MFC Facebook page from Nick McCallum*...Now i know Nick has worked hard for the club but i find his spin on this a little insulting to the supporters who witnessed yesterday..

I get the impression that people within the club do not want to know...Deep Down they hope this will just go away..I was there yesterday & i gave the team a good Boo as they came off...There was no EFFORT...watch todays Hawk Cat Game.

Sorry Nick but this rubbish you write is one of the clubs biggest problems....You refuse to accept how bad things are.

He is 100% correct ................................................... about the terminal illness.

Nick McCallum, the famous one, works for Channel 7 and 3AW, and has done the pre-game spiels that we used to do at our home games (remember the 'grand old flag' disaster?).

He is a proud MFC supporter.

this^^^, is a part of the reason why our club has been so inept across a half a century. & has a woefully 'Soft Culture'...

... the problem is these people just don't get it.

In 1981 the Melbourne crowd cheered the MFC team from the ground 1/4 time & at I/2 time.. the team emerged from the long break & didn't give a Yelp. I'll never forget that player reaction to the applause.

... the subconscious reaction from the playing group, was to inwardly believe they were on they're way, & it was now a matter of course, with the new coach (Barassi) & the MCG enshrining them... & the crowd behind them, the players went to water.

its the soft, warm, cosy feel of that approach that turns young hard edged recruits into house mice.

& has done so for 45 yrs now & counting.

I like others supporters have invested money and emotion in the demons for more than 40+ years. That is a longer association and more emotional attachment than probably all the players and coaches. The problem will be when supporters no longer boo such performances because they will either have totally given up, or will no longer turn up. They are there to cheer as well as boo, just not a lot to cheer about at the moment.

I was not at the game but I loved the fact that our supports where booing the players, they need to hear that they are playing for us and not not playing for a pay check at the end of the week.

my god I am a fair weather supporter - even after attending six years of misery - I know I should have clapped my team of for their effort Don Mclardy but I am not an idiot.

Seriously, this club needs a president that can give the club a bloody hard shake... he has no right to call anyone who turned up yesterday fair weather, espcially after half a decade of crapola... yesterday was embarrassing.

Fair weather supporters? What about fair weather footballers? Fair weather administrators? Fair weather coaches? Fair weather footy club.

Face facts: anyone who turned up to the game yesterday is not a "fair weather supporter"

They all left a few years ago when this downward spiral began.

We, the rusted on barnacles, are sick of watching us get thumped when with a bit of application and determination we could not only stay in a game but win it. I refer you to the Gold Coast Suns who kept cracking at the Saints until they got the win.

For the record, I did not boo the team and never would. I left 5 minutes early instead.

Spot on. Those of us who turned up yesterday are real fans. The ones who turn up even when we know we are going to lose. The ones who turn up when the weather is predicted to be cold and rainy, we pull on our plastic ponchos and demonstrate our insanity by sitting in the freezing rain in order to cheer on our boys. The ones who are pitied by nice people, and laughed at by those who are not so nice. We are Melbourne.

In return, all we ask for is that our team show a bit of spirit, and put in a little effort. That insipid tripe on display yesterday qualified for neither. I did not boo, and would not do so, but can understand the frustration of those who did. I even stayed to the end, although leaving early was tempting and I could understand those who thought catching an earlier bus/train/tram or just getting into a warm car was more interesting than watching Port Adelaide look good.

If any of us were 'fair weather supporters' then we would not have stuck around for the last few years, and the club would not have ANY members. The fact that we are still here shows either that we are committed supporters, or else, deserve to be committed. Either way, we deserve better than this. Many of us have busy lives, and have to make choices about what we are going to do with our weekends. Go to the footy or do 'X'. Unless the Club attempts to make going to the footy worth our while again, doing 'X' is looking pretty good right now.

For those that thought that going to the game was bad enough, try this on for size.

I paid $1261 to get into the ground yesterday... to watch that!

I would love for Nick to point out any fair weather supporters still present at the ground to be able to boo the players off...

By definition Nick, they weren't at the ground doing the boo-ing!!!
