Crowd at MCG next Sunday

quite likely i'll be there. first game in quite a while so would be nice to get off to a good start. Almost certain for the essendon game too :)

It will be a very long drive home Deeoldfart if the result is similar to last year.

Last year was a long drive home ..... this year will be much quicker, I promise! (and I still own the same vehicle!)

I was going to say 15,000 but its the first game of year, we'll be pretty close to full strength and its winnable games so I'll go with 18,000

God, what a terrible thought. I imagine it would be like sitting in one of those "dry areas". What type of sicko invented them?

suggest you smuggle in some Maldon Moonshine bbo. You could hide it in your saddle bags.

No need to go that far. I think i'm in the "problem drinker" category - only borderline alcoholic. Besides my Alpacas are already stressed - I don't want to overburden them.

1.10 on Easter Sunday is the worst timeslot of the entire season. If it's a nice day, then 20,000 would be a fantastic result.

Last year Deeoldfart it was a long trip home to the surburbs with the knowledge we were crap.

God I hope it is better on Sunday

The performance of the Melbourne listed players for Casey on Saturday did not instill a grat deal of confidence in me. Some of them are well short of match practice so it will be interesting to see who gets selected against Port. As usual I will go with the hope that we can continue to improve on last year (hopefully not that hard!) and be a far more competitive team. For our first game I would be hoping for at least 23,000, but that is almost all our current membership!

Would love to go but its a bit far so ill be watching the mighty Demons on Foxtel

To those that are going beware of the Port supporters. I hear if they bite you you become one of them.

If that were true, you'd expect them to have more supporters by now.

1:10 is far better than twilight for attendance purposes, I think

About 22,000. 25 would be fantastic. First game of the year, there's always plenty of interest and excitement for supporters, especially with the new players. 1:10 timeslot is favourable, certainly for me over twilight. and we had 33,473 last year against the Lions.

i'm going to bring two people who have never been to the football. I think they are going to invite another four. So that would make seven.

We will get 30 plus there no doubt. It's round 1 and believe it or not some can't wait to see the dee's play.

I assume you're counting eyes, not heads. [insert weak pun here about one-eyed supporters]

I'd be surprised if it's much over 15,000. I hope for more, but two poorly performing teams, two poorly supported teams, Easter Sunday and (because it's a Melbourne home game) wet weather, makes me pessimistic.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
