Cyril Rioli

Is there a more appealing recruiting target for the MFC?

- Coming out of contract next season (restricted free agent?).

- Hawthorn will be bursting at the seams cap-wise if they manage to retain Buddy. Something must give there.

I'd free up cash by moving Sylvia on at season's end, then make a massive play for the Junior Boy. Best forward pocket/x-factor player in the comp with the potential to wreak havoc in the midfield as he matures as a player. At 25yo, he's got five top-line years in front of him.

Imagine the lift the whole club would get the moment he walked in the door.

Dream on.

Why?

Hawthorn are ruthless at this sort of stuff themselves. Refer Hale, Gibson and Gunston from Adelaide last year. Instead of being the hunted I think we should continue with going after good Out of Contract Players. Clark, Dawes and Byrnes shows we can do it. We should have the cap room and help the players we want get the best deal, improve our list or at worst clog up other clubs salary cap. We could become real pests now.

Wouldn't stop at CR either, lets get after some of those good GWS and GCS kids nicely tuned up for us after two years in the system and who may want to come home.

Anyone out of contract at Carlton?

i love the idea and as Docket said we have shown we're capable of landing a couple of big ones so anything is possible. I don't think Cyril will be the one pushed out however as he is just far too valuable to the hawks, but whoever is pushed out, they will stiil very likely be a handy player.

With Davey perhaps in his last year, Rioli would be a great mentor to Barry. Can't see Hawks releasing him, though.

Did nothing in the grand final

Now you're talking - some of those GWS young guns look amazing (except for you know who.)

Coniglio, Tyson, Greene.....I'd try for all of them.

Dream on.

That's the spirit

There is no way that the Hawks will let Cyril go. They'll lock him up for the long term before the 2014 season begins.

Just like they did for Buddy this year?

He's a gem to watch, but I don't think he'll ever be a permanent midfielder.

We are no chance of getting him either.

Don't think we'd need him to be a 'permanent' midfielder. Give me 20 Cyril possessions and 5 goals assists over a pedestrian 30-stat midfielder every day of the week.

We're no chance if we think we're no chance. You stay small if you think small.

Wave $2.8mil over 4 under his manager's nose and see what shakes loose.

Seem to remember he turned the '08 Grand Final on its head.

The 08 Grand final was 5 years ago Range Rover.

So what. The bloke was named on a FF in the AA team for 2012. He's a rolled gold gun.

First Clark, now Rioli. I see where your head's at RR. Recruit players who have their names tattooed on their backs so we can remember who they are.

Cunning, very cunning.

In what way is he a Restricted Free Agent?

We would have to trade for him.

Players debuting in 2006 and that are OOC will be Restricted (teams can match offer).

Players debuting in 2004 and that are OOC will be Unrestricted.

So will Hawthorn trade him to us?

DERP!

So Cyril will be OOC at the end of 2014? Then he will re-sign a contract and at the end of that he will be a RFA.

He debuted in 2008 - RFA at the end of 2015.

Right, I wasn't sure about that.

But I do know he comes out of contract next season.

The Free Agents are named in this article. Other than Lance Franklin, the best ones are Dale Thomas, Beau Waters, Colin Sylvia, Nathan van Berlo and Nick Dal Santo. Sylvia is an Unrestricted Free Agent which is both a surprise and annoying.

I like Van Berlo but he'd be pretty hard to prize loose. Quality player, quality leader.

He'd be a prime candidate to offer up our early first rounder for in November.

We wouldn't offer anything other than a big juicy contract. He is a Free Agent. And you are dreaming.

Buddy and Dale Thomas are the ones we should target. (To inflate their contracts if anything else.)

Okay so he's not a free agent, restricted or otherwise.

Jordan Lewis on the other hand, now he would be a good pick up. Only 26.

Jordan Lewis and dale Thomas should be our top line targets.. Chuck $1mil at buddy to force their hand with Jordan Lewis!!!

Adam selwood from WCE and nick dal santo StK could be cheapish targets too

Yes, no more "Go number 7" cries from the member's. Tatts all the way. 10% tougher as they say!

Betts is FA also. Throw money at him. Fills a gaping hole

I do like your thinking re the GWS and GCS young talent Dockett and have mooted similar before.

Personally I'd rather get a Dom Tyson or Dion Prestia with a two or three season apprenticeship under their belt than a Jordan Lewis type. Strategically it would suit us better ... and it would cost less.

Then we go all out for C. Rioli with a fat roll of bills in 2014.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate.
