Ultimate Footy 2013 - Robbie Flower League

IWAP

Recommended Posts

Seeing that our little brother the Norm Smith league have started their thread, i think its about time for our one to start.

Who is in for this year? Preference will go to those who participated last year, but i think there will be a few spots open for any others that want to join. Once you play ultimate footy, you'll have a hard time going back to dreamteam or supercoach.

I want someone else to take over the admin this year. From memory Striker was willing to do it, but might be away for the start (Striker are you around???) or perhaps someone else if he is unavailable?

Returning players

IWAP - The reigning champ!

furiousd - Flying eyeballs

GM11 - Galahs

7-UP - 7-Up

BrunoC - Dark Days

Dr Mubutu - Disgruntled Goats

Striker475 - Sporting GHRP-6ers

robbo king - Saigon Saints

I'm keen. I'll be in Burma for all of Feb, can we have the draft later than that because the interwebs aren't so flash in that part of the world. Better to wait till late in the NAB Cup anyway, gives a formguide and less chance for more injuries before the season proper.

No chance for me to do the admin as I'll be travelling all year. Should make for a pretty ordinary season for the eyeballs but I'm keen to keep my spot in the league, love the Ultimate Footy.

Great to have you back guys! Still awaiting the others from last season, and there is also some room for any new players that may wants to give it a go.

I'd love to hear how your trip to Burma was when you return. I'd imagine it would be a pretty interesting place to tour. I'm thinking mid-March would be a good time for the draft.

Just PM'd you. I'm back in but adminning on my own will be a bit rough - I'm in the US right now and will be until the end of the month, plus I've got another league to commish for. I'm happy to help out and split with someone, but if someone wanted to take over outright it wouldn't phase me either.

Thanks Striker, BrunoC and Doc! Great to see lots of returning faces.

BrunoC - very happy for you to take over the role of admin. I think the easiest way is for you to start a new league, and send us the code and password (either in this thread or via pms). Are you thinking of any rule changes (eg. captains) etc. ?

Still plenty of room for the rest of last year's comp plus some newbies.

Okay I have created the league - will PM everyone the password.

Settings are pretty much the same as last year apart from a few minor tweaks. Season player signing/delisting limit has been reduced to 30 and "weekend signing lockout" is activated (players become restricted FA over the weekend). This means teams who are not quite as active will not be disadvantaged when it comes to signing free agents.

Of course I am willing to change any setting if a majority of the league agrees to it so don't be afraid to suggest changes in this thread.

Live draft is set to 17 March at 8pm (Round 1 starts 22 March). Tell me if this suits you, I can change it if necessary.

EDIT: League ID is 822191

how will the draft order be done?

Think its just the ladder order on the league page - so 7UP would have first pick if we were to start the draft now.

The ladder gets jumbled each time someone joins, so once the 16th team has signed in we will know the final draft order.

8 spots still remaining CMON JOIN UP!!!

After reading some of the reports from the intra-club today, i'm very interested to see where some of our players get drafted.

I'm calling shotgun on Jack Viney. No one else should be allowed to draft him.

Good luck with that. I'm trying to work out just how high to bloody draft him. Is 15th Round too high?

There's a few around this year too - Crouch, O'Meara (although will he get a game?), Wines, Whitfield (same as JOM), Stringer....

EDIT: Good guess - he's projected under UF rankings at 235 which puts him in the 14th round.

my brother, who was Daves Demons, has returned 'DB'

Good to have him back. Shame he was absent for the first half of last season because he had a pretty decent side and would have been a finals contender.

Viney a little underwhelming tonight in terms of his fantasy output - still should be a solid mid-round selection given the 'inside' nature of his game. Toumpas impressive seems to be a natural accumulator, knows where to run. Kent a potential bargain late round selection.

Was his first year of UF, didnt have a clue what to do strategy wise. He was used to super coach, expect him to be better this year... just like his brother. ^_^

6 spots still up for grabs

Just to clarify the scoring system for any new players who might be interested in joining.

There are 9 categories weighted as follows:
Kicks- 2 points
Handball- 2 points
Marks- 2 points
Tackles- 2 points
Hitouts- 2 points
Goals- 2 points
Frees For- 1 points
Frees Against- -1 points
Scoring Accuracy- 1 points

So if your team gets more kicks than your opposition for the round you will score 2 points. If you score 8 points you win the round. Teams consist of 18 players (6 Forwards, 5 Centres, 6 Backs, 1 Ruck) plus a captain.

The site is very user-friendly and will only require you to log in for 5 minutes each week to select your team. Give it a try you will not regret it!

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
