"Tanking"

Featured Replies

Why would it, if they are guilty and the other clubs are guilty do you think they might receive a fleet discount?

You're a bit thick, aren't you ?

I started reading Would you want your son playing AFL footy? on Wednesday 6th February, 2013 at 11:10 PM and then I noticed this -

by CAROLINE WILSON - 07/02/13, 3:00 AM

... and I thought well FMD, I'm in the Twilight Zone. She's writing stuff in the future now which probably explains its closeness to science fiction except I find that most Sci Fi is clever and this shyzen is plain dumb, mean spirited and pathetic.

What about if your son was playing at Richmond in 2007 under a coach, who in clear contravention of an AFL rule downed tools and didn't coach the team on its merits because he was so desperate for his club to secure Trent Cotchin? Or would you want your son to be playing more recently for the Toigs sleeping in with a mate and missing a training session? (BTW don't expect any of this to be covered by The Shrew in commentary)

Would you let your son or daughter become an AFL official so that they could turn a blind eye to the activity of some clubs and pick on others? We know what that means?

Would you allow your daughter to become a journalist and make prejudicial comments about the guilt of others before an investigation is completed? To pick on people she might be running a vendetta against?

I've got her pegged. A good journalist at times when it comes to gathering facts but when she does "comment", she's all over the place and not particularly logical or smart.

And if this is an article on ethics ...

One of these days people might start digging into some of the things that happened at Richmond in the past. I wonder what items of interest they might uncover?

FWIW: Dees' secretive way 'best'

"

MELBOURNE president Don McLardy has defended the scarcity of information the club has provided to members about its response to the AFL's tanking investigation, insisting the secretive approach had been adopted ''in the best interests of our club''."

etc. etc.

Keep grinding the axe Daisy.....

Like they say Rhino, never throw stones at glass houses.

You're a bit thick, aren't you ?

Is that the response you have when you don't have an answer?

Perhaps I am for even bothering with you.

You're a bit thick, aren't you ?

You really should do something about your lithp.

This is where governance is not understood. Clearly a CEO needs to know what's going on but he shouldn't meddle in footy department decisions like recruiting selections, team selections, player evaluation or training schedules.

This is precisely why the choice of the previous CEO by the former board was such a disaster (Jonathan Brown indeed) and why his dismissal by the Stynes Board was such an important move at the time.

If CS "meddled" in 2011 then he possibly did the wrong thing at the time but that, like the McNamee fiasco, is a thing of the past. Since the overhaul carried out after Dean Bailey's departure, we have a new football department and things seem to be working very well on all levels from administration to our core business as demonstrated last night. Now we need to get the results on the field but with the third least experienced list, its not going to happen overnight.

I agree that we need to go past this "tanking" situation which has been going on for an obscenely long time and which IMO has been handled appallingly by the AFL.

-9 (phase II) and counting

could today be the day?

will there be a phase III?

Did anyone read that try hard Horse Trainer Darryl Timms piece in the Sun about our 180 pokie machines.

beat up !! guys a tool

I have this uncomfortable feeling that the Essendon fiasco makes it harder for the AFL to let us off the hook.

They now have multiple cases building up pressure to sort out the league problems.

Hope I am wrong but will not look good to say no case to answer IMO

Agree I am also worried. A bit like when I was a kid my older brother was being very naughty but I was just a little. We would both feel the wrath of a belt.

I don't mind reading that. It hopefully ups the ante with the AFL. "Go down the path of charging for bringing the game into disrepute and these could be the consequences and you can bet that the MFC are not going to allow the jeopardising of millions of dollars of revenue by rolling over and accepting these charges".

To those advocating we negotiate out a penalty. The single admission of guilt brings with it potentially huge ramifications outside what the AFL can do to us.

Agree. The Essendon thing impacts us. The AFL will likely now want to be seen to be heavy handed now that several of it's 'pupils' have gotten 'out of line'.

Nut. The pokies article is lazy journalism. Its yesterdays rubbish dressed up as todays sensationalism.

Theyve obviously run out of mud.

I agree but I do like to see ramifications outside what the AFL can do highlighted. I have seen AD having breakfast at Georgios in Malvern a couple of times by himself and he was studying the sports sections of the paper. I would like to think that he reads that and ponders that his "company's" disproportionate handling and ultimate decision could cost one of his stakeholders 10 million dollars in revenue.

i notice that she has clearly moved away from MFC from being charged, now its just the individuals. At the end of the day, are we as supporters/members happy for the club not to be charged but CC or CS being showed the door?

She's not really after the club, or even the staff or players... but the supporters,,, theres her [censored]. hate

Healy on 3aw said Gil Mclaughlin will be announcing something big tomorrow and joining the show at 6:15pm

Could be the verdict.

I predict our first and second rd draft picks for 13 and 14 will be taken away from us.

Going to be a long year in court me thinks.

we need to fight any loss of draft picks or any harsh penalties dished the club, or our guys... working for our aims.

you don't charge someone with jaywalking when the next road crossing is a kilometer up the road!

the jaywalking isn't the probblem, the lack of realistic options is the problem.

The AFL Commissiners are being seen for what they are. One big smokescreen of overpaid hotair & porkbellies..... Yeehaah.

overseeing & covering up all the crap, whilst controlling the media under an armour of fear & retribution...

Disagree. They have the game's image to look after and that is paramount in both cases.

With us, they have plausible deniability. "It might have looked like tanking but they broke no rules and were basically not very good."

With this Essendrugs thing, assuming there's fire amid all the smoke, it could bring the game into disrepute beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

One example: GWS. They've been shocked at how quickly the new soccer club has pulled the rug out from under them. Now their work to attract kids is much harder. Then along comes an adverse drugs finding ... "GWS ... aren't they the ones all on drugs? I remember seeing on the telly that AFL players are all on drugs. No son, you can't play that sport."

lol.. my m-i-l lives across the road and haunts georgios... I might have to sic her onto him. he'll cave !! hehe

well we'll take them to court then!

if the game needs its house put in order, bring it on!

if the commission needs to be shown for who they really are, & their finances, like Obeid,,, they should be seen under oath, what they've been doing.

I don't agree with that dee-luded

I think it is CS and she is not alone.

I have said before that GD is also a CS hate'r ( don't think that is a word)

My view is that CS does a good job but we are stuck with the problem

Oh, she doesn't like Cam, but thats not her sole aim.

She & others hate the club, but not for the colours, or Barassi,,, but the supporters attitudes & past arrogance. thats the grit in her shell, down below her soft underside.

Thats her 'Rub'.

And she wants to 'Rub' us, back.

I see your point OD however i also have a comforting feeling from the confidant and calm manner in which McLardy and Co have addressed the tanking investigation. As opposed to the Adelaide officials with the Kurt Tippet saga and the Bombers officials the other day.

The AFL might try to make an example of us however i also believe they know that if they do we are heading to court and an area where the AFL no longer hold the power...

I agree... She is a scorned woman of some sorts. He bile and bitterness towards CS is bizarre really.

As to GD. meh !!

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
