New sponsorship for the Dees?

Featured Replies

You do understand that Drake International and Metro Solar have withdrawn there sponsorship from the club stuie, were officially looking for a shorts and coach day sponsor, usually the club thanks there sponsors on the website when they decide not to renew, but that was kept hush hush, you would think that those two companys would contribute about 600,000 a season, lets see how they go replacing them , hopefully its not a problem.

Your gleefullness is just oozing out of that post.

We change a lot of sponsors every year, you know Collingwood have lost/changed a fair few this year? That Maguire guy must be hopeless hey....

The pies have sponsors waiting in the wings, as i said hopefully its not a problem, guess we find out in the next few weeks.

So you think Schwab would have had no idea we were losing those sponsors?..... Come off it mate, the guy replaced the shock loss of a major sponsor mid-season, I'm sure this won't be a problem.

I want Schwab to find the sponsors, if this tanking crap keeps dragging on it mite be a bit harder than you think, like i said i hope its not a problem.

If the Schwab haters get their way, then they'd better hope their Messiah does a whole lot better. It could be a case of massive egg on face if he turns out to be a dud.

Who knows we may get their boy McNamee back; wouldn't that be good?

Sooo... Basically you're saying you're criticising him, but you haven't really got any idea?

You "hope" it's not a problem.

Wow. Revelation.

Your a dead set joke, were did i say that, if you go to the clubs website its obviously not hard to figure out, even for You, the clubs lost more sponsors than its gained, like i said i hope it works out for the best.

I'll just preface this by saying I don't have any affiliation one way or the other with any current or prior board other than being a 24 year MFC member & current Trident's Member;

Schwab would want to sort out these sponsorship issues quicksmart (long term not just quick fixes) or he'll be looking for work before the years out regardless of the outcome fo the AFL investigation.

Sometimes we need to be realists, the Economy is flat, we are the worst performed team on field for the last 6 years, we have an extremely low membership base, a low supporter base, received the worse Financial fixture over the past 2 years and 2013 is a complete disaster draw for the Admin side of the club, no one outside MFC supporters and the opposition supporters have any interest in watching our games they have been crap. Off field issues have been non stop over the past 6 years.

What benefit does any company gain from sponsering us at the moment?

In all honesty, Schwab is only one person that unfortunately heads up a failing organisation. I don't disagree with the pressure he should be under, but the board and other senior staff need to be placed under the same pressure. The club can't continue to be the whipping boy of the competition both on and off the field.

While that is all true the fact remains he is employed to do a job and securing sponsors is an integral part of that so if he fails to sign some to decent deals (dollars and years-wise) he probably will and should get the arse - especially considering the issues we have had with sponsors in the last few years under his management.

Would I be right in thinking The Age weren't a Gold sponsor?

You are focusing on one part of the business, Cam Schwab is responsible for the whole business. The club has senior people below him that secure the Sponsors. Schwab, the Board and the senior staff are all accountable for the position the club is in at the moment, you are right that 2013 must be a year of significant improvement, not just in the sponsorship department but right across the business and this has to start with our Footy Department, the better our team plays the easier it will be for the Board and Schwab to Manage the business.

I agree but the pressure is on the Board/CEO this year moreso than Neeld & the FD (who will certainly feel pressure as well if we chuck up the same rubbish as last year).

As I said, you're criticising Schwab for something you know nothing about.

If you knew anything about it, you wouldn't need to hope it's not a problem, cos you'd know one way or the other.

But you don't.

You know nothing.

So you really shouldn't criticise from a position of knowing absolutely nothing.

For a club that has, in recent years, been perpetually near the bottom of the ladder and a constant target of the vultures in the media, Melbourne has done extremely well in attracting lucrative new sponsorship deals, something it was less able to do before Cameron Schwab took on the role of CEO.

I wonder if this was Eddie's feeble attempt to "get payback" by "stealing our sponsors" as he threatened a while ago..?

Leak that we're going to sign a sponsor, then sign them to Collingwood.

Somehow I doubt it.

Surely melbourne would targeting sponsors like the army reserves, or some really tough hard to destroy 4 wheel drive or VW Amarok you know something that gets a few miles to the ....

No need to worry about sponsors, we're doing fine financially. Hell, we can afford $80k on a desk, we're doing fine...

To be fair to the desk - that was 15 years ago.

And it was a good desk!

Quit badmouthing the desk!

Leave the desk alone!

(10 points for the person who can tell where that is from)

Didn't know that, won't be bringing it up again

Ed. though it does increase my distrust of Schwab

At least the desk isn't as old as your jokebook.

I'm amazed this post has been up for nearly 24 hours, and we haven't had the "any publicity is good publicity for sponsors" line that gets thrown about by some in here.

I also found it interesting to read in an article in The Age that our current sponsors have a "get out clause" should we be found guilty of tanking.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
