THE WILSON FILE - the arrogance at the heart of the innuendo

I endorse that although it's regrettable that the issue had to be played out in the media and also, to be fair to Paul Gardner, we don't know whether the media sought him out for comment or vice versa.

Not to mention that Coglin's confrontation and comments were back in 2009 and quite separate to the recent on-goings.

They weren't agenda driven, more affronted driven.

Far from it. Top bloke is Mick.

Jimmy's comments that the club hadn't been inclusive to women obviously hit a raw nerve when one considers the club's Pink Lady initiative and the fact that they'd had 3 women on the Board - no other club has matched this. To sit and listen to a recently elected President cast aspersions on the club's previous attitude towards women when he knew the situation to be the opposite and was in fact proud of the club's efforts would have rightly riled him.

In the article I read Jim said his comments were misinterpreted and he offered to meet with Coglin (who abused him in public) to sort it out. Coglin went to the media. That to me is a prima donna. You play these games in the media. Jim denied ever criticising the past board and said his comments were broad in the context of saying 'we all have work to do'.

And even if he did criticise them so what? Why would you go to the media?? Self aggrandising crap is what I call it.

Who is to say they are separate?? We do know that at least two f the former board [censored] have tipped a bucket publicly on the club.

Not good enough and you can F off as far as I am concerned. Particularly Gardner.

keep that opinion to yourself

Look at Carlton, look at Richmond, look at North.

These are clubs littered with disaffected people.

Yet these people keep it personal. They don't go out of their way to drag down the respective football clubs.

This was arguably the most damaging issue that this club has faced in it's history.

And we have people doing their best to make sure it stuck.

Whatever context you put on it, these are people who feel nothing for this football club.

They need to be outed & I concur with jnrmac. See above.

The North people cause a lot of trouble at the club and probably for the right reasons if they want to keep their club playing games in Melbourne. Don't like their long term chances.

Watch the Tiges if they don't make finals this year, the lid will blow.

WJ my problem is that whoever instigated the passing on of information will not be satisfied with the result and will still be stirring the pot in the background. I am of two minds whether we should name that person and therefore flush him out into the open.

This is my concern also. Until such time as they are put to task, told to put up or f off then this cancer remains.

Some people just cant help themselves

Its not that difficult

If you are an ex player, ex coach, ex board member or ex president OR current of all the former

1/ if you have something positive to say about the club sing it from the highest rooftops

2/ if you wish to be critical and after examination understand that publicity surrounding your gripes could damage/hurt the club then take your gripes to the current managments only (quietly)

you are right nut...BUT it has been difficult for the MFC for over 40 years.

WHY?

In 1987 Australian Football began the journey of becoming Professional. That year we made finals and did so for 5 years. We were on level terms with the heavy weights.

At what point does this club breakdown?

It happened again after 2000, we failed to make finals in 2001.

Why did this club not learn and grow from the '96 merger fiasco?

Who or what (or both) keep retarding this club?

The cancer must be stopped regardless of who or what it might be.

I do not like my ex's for many reasons. I walk away and cease communication. Simple.

Members of previous boards and ex players must do the same.

No exception. The Club is Bigger and older than any one man....

why is easy..its called ego and they love themselves ( their own self importance and sound of their own voices) more than the club.

If they thought for a moment about the "club" instead of themselves they would realise they damage that has and can be caused and could be avoided by taking criticisms, complaints and gripes in a discrete manner to the right people.

yes i understand that, and you are right.

BUT WHY is it that the MFC cannot keep those egos at bay over many decades whilst other clubs can.

Egos are at all clubs. Old MFC Egos seem to be the most resentful.

WHY?

The same thing is happening at North......Ex admin and old players bagging the current Admin.......It happens at all clubs.......We just take notice when it is ours......Throughout history the old will bag the new......Ego is a powerful thing...

Sure, but it does not seem to carry out onto the FD and players.

At the MFC it seems to infect everything down the line when it flares.

pretty damming isn't it.

I reckon all this negative supposition has gone far enough. I have it on good authority that one embittered former employee really stirred up the stove. No doubt other people formerly associated with the club made a few negative comments about the events of 2009, 2011 and 2012 .This doesn't mean that dozens of former staff or directors are lurking around the next corner ready to drag us even further down as some seem to be suggesting.Let's face it, Its fairly hard to avoid negative observations when you asked about Melbourne in those years!!

Today's club - current board and staff - has done well to maintain a united front through this investigation. We need to take comfort in that - and back the FD to lead us onward and upward.

Forward march!!

Geez WYL how many have you had. Expensive pastime.

It would if it were true, but it's not. CEOs since 1987:

1987-1992 Tony King

1992-1997 Hassa Mann (that's two in those 10 years)

1997-1999 Cameron Schwab

1999-2002 John Anderson

2003 Ray Ellis

2004-2007 Steve Harris

2008 Paul McNamee (briefly)

2009-present Cameron Schwab

That's 8 in 16 years.

We've had one for the past 4 years, and there's still a lot of people who want to change again.

IMO we as supporters & it seems our supporters from up on High in the North 'G', keep seemngly looking for that 'Key Player',,, or that Key 'Coach',,, (lets get Micky Malthouse)......

... and so it goes on.

to me, they should have been saying, lets get Brian Cook, & lets get Neil Craig, lets get David Misson, & Todd Viney, etc

I think we're on the right track now, but the supporters faith & patience has been worn away with past dog whistles.

when its now we need to realise we are onto something & are moving forward.

But lets Not let the tail wag the dog again.

I reckon you are missing some...john Philips? I don't where I read it but was sure it was at least 10....

IN any case its not a recipe for stability....

Girlfriends mate, not wives!!

Same result though!!

John Phillips was acting CEO for a while after Ray Ellis' departure. That makes it about 8 in 12 years of what were mainly the Szondy/Gardner period. Too much instability during that period. What a legacy it left us?

Tax liabilities hidden in drawers! Comical stuff......joke was on us.

Let's face it, the last 48 years have been punctuated by divisiveness and bad blood within the club. We had some limited success in the short periods during which we had stability at the top.

We have a board in place that served us well over the past 12 difficult months (and I believe the bad times started almost 12 months ago to the day with the Jurrah arrest in Alice Springs). The football department is also starting to show their worth.

I would like to see them get 12 stable months to show us what they can do and lift the club without the distractions we had in 2012.

Agree 'Jack', unless there is a major disaster it's time to put all the BS aside and let the club have a clear run at it. Players, Coach, FD, Board and Management.

Jon Ralph was speaking on KB's programme today about the situation at the Cronulla Sharks and he said that because of their history they were wracked by whistleblowers much the same as Melbourne in the AFL.

An interesting comment.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
