Jimmy's comments that the club hadn't been inclusive to women obviously hit a raw nerve when one considers the club's Pink Lady initiative and the fact that they'd had 3 women on the Board - no other club has matched this. To sit and listen to a recently elected President cast aspersions on the club's previous attitude towards women when he knew the situation to be the opposite and was in fact proud of the club's efforts would have rightly riled him.

In the article I read Jim said his comments were misinterpreted and he offered to meet with Coglin (who abused him in public) to sort it out. Coglin went to the media. That to me is a prima donna. You play these games in the media. Jim denied ever criticising the past board and said his comments were broad in the context of saying 'we all have work to do'.

And even if he did criticise them so what? Why would you go to the media?? Self aggrandising crap is what I call it.

These are clubs littered with disaffected people.

Yet these people keep it personal. They don't go out of their way to drag down the respective football clubs.

This was arguably the most damaging issue that this club has faced in it's history.

And we have people doing their best to make sure it stuck.

The North people cause a lot of trouble at the club and probably for the right reasons if they want to keep their club playing games in Melbourne. Don't like their long term chances.

Watch the Tiges if they don't make finals this year, the lid will blow.

WJ my problem is that whoever instigated the passing on of information will not be satisfied with the result and will still be stirring the pot in the background. I am of two minds whether we should name that person and therefore flush him out into the open.

This is my concern also. Until such time as they are put to task, told to put up or f off then this cancer remains.

At what point does this club breakdown?

It happened again after 2000, we failed to make finals in 2001.

Why did this club not learn and grow from the '96 merger fiasco?

BUT WHY is it that the MFC cannot keep those egos at bay over many decades whilst other clubs can.

Egos are at all clubs. Old MFC Egos seem to be the most resentful.

I reckon all this negative supposition has gone far enough. I have it on good authority that one embittered former employee really stirred up the stove. No doubt other people formerly associated with the club made a few negative comments about the events of 2009, 2011 and 2012 .This doesn't mean that dozens of former staff or directors are lurking around the next corner ready to drag us even further down as some seem to be suggesting.Let's face it, Its fairly hard to avoid negative observations when you asked about Melbourne in those years!!

Today's club - current board and staff - has done well to maintain a united front through this investigation. We need to take comfort in that - and back the FD to lead us onward and upward.

John Phillips was acting CEO for a while after Ray Ellis' departure. That makes it about 8 in 12 years of what were mainly the Szondy/Gardner period. Too much instability during that period. What a legacy it left us?

Let's face it, the last 48 years have been punctuated by divisiveness and bad blood within the club. We had some limited success in the short periods during which we had stability at the top.

We have a board in place that served us well over the past 12 difficult months (and I believe the bad times started almost 12 months ago to the day with the Jurrah arrest in Alice Springs). The football department is also starting to show their worth.

I would like to see them get 12 stable months to show us what they can do and lift the club without the distractions we had in 2012.

Agree 'Jack', unless there is a major disaster it's time to put all the BS aside and let the club have a clear run at it. Players, Coach, FD, Board and Management.

Jon Ralph was speaking on KB's programme today about the situation at the Cronulla Sharks and he said that because of their history they were wracked by whistleblowers much the same as Melbourne in the AFL.

An interesting comment.
