Pick 20 options

Featured Replies

Pick 20 options are:

1- trade to Pies for Chris Dawes

2- pick up a good running mid ... like Atkins, Lowrie , Graham or mature 22yo like Dean Towers (my preference)

If we take a quick outside midfielder with pick 4, then I am happy with Dawes being traded for Pick 20. However, the comment above about Ben Holland fills me with the jitters.

If we can't/don't get Dawes at 20, then I'd take draftee Dean Towers, planning to develop Hogan in this spot in 2014. Use Martin, Fitzy, Sellar for 2013.

If we want Pederson or Gumbleton, take them at pick 45. May need to inclide Morton/Petterd/Bate to pick up Gumbleton this late.

I would trade it for Dawes but does anyone know the draft rules I think we have to use a minimum 3 picks in draft

We've already used 1 pick for Viney. So only need another 2. Pick 4 and... whatever is left. But I'd assume we'd pick more than 3 (Unless we trade in a few more established players)

What chance Menzel sliding to 20? Even with pick 4 being used on Toumpas/Wines/O'Rouke and pick 20 on another midfield with line breaking ability, I've got 3 holes left in my MFC jigsaw - one more quality mid, a tough, hard lock down back pocket with a reliable kick and suitable pace and finally, a mercurial forward pocket. Menzel might fill the last hole fillied with the potential of adding to our midfield mix in the future. With obvious concerns over his history of knee problems, clubs may be reluctant to use their first pick on him and it's only looking like GWS and Collingwood might have more than one pick before twenty. If he slid, I'd grab him.

we may well end up keeping pick 20 as Moloney is a near certainty now to go to Bris so we will be compensated for that, and there is still a fair chance that rivers will be leaving. If he does end up leaving the compensation for Both moloney and Rivers (taking into account we have gotten brynes in FA) i would say we would get a mid 2nd rnd pick (35?). Possibly what we could use on Dawes, seems a lot better than pick 20

Tim Membrey looks like he could make an immediate impact imo, think he is a bit older 19 and could play well under Clark?

Happy to trade #20 for Dawes.. Hogan will take sometime and we need someone to support Clarke in the meantime.

chuck Pederson forward.

Fitz' isn't too far off. Spencer/Gawn pinch hit?

let Dawes shut.

Does anyone think Garlett, Kennedy or Stringer could slide to our pick because if so I would be disgusted if we didn't grab them.

IMO now we have Barry, Garlett may be too much risk. IMO, Kennedy will be well gone, but Stringer, who knows there???

don't forget the smalls, the really nimble ones, yes kennedy, But there'd be more.

Sam Colcohoun, what about Rory Atkins, &, theres another,,,,

# Edit: Hrovat is the one I was trying to remember.

Knees, family history.

genetic knee issues worry me.

If the Gumby rumour is true, you'd think pick 20 will come into calculations for him. Probably too high a price given his injury riddled past but he's definitely a talent (and apparently injury free now). Maybe an additional exchange of picks or a player could get it done.

Much more appealing option than Dawes. More upside to Gumby.

Im not going to spend pick 20 on someone who has played what, 20 games in 6 years or whatever?

Take my chances in the draft thank you.

Am I smelling a "Gumby or Dawes" poll Rangey?

Any potential options of packaging pick 20 with a player for a pick between 10 - 15?

pick 20 + gysberts or Martin?

So we can get Stringer...

Gumbleton shouldn't be discussed in this thread.

Give the pick to sydney for luke parker so the swans can get tippett. Reckon this would be a good deal and he would be perfect for us.

Sugar you shine a bit of light on a player (club trading) that has yet to do much but will need to do lors if to get its trophy boy.

Sydney do have a knack of getting things done efficiently .

Vlastuin may still be available at 20 and Matt McDonough (strong small forward who kicked a few in the championships) though he could slide a bit. I think both of these would definitely add to our deficiencies.

It's a good point. There will be some very good players still left at 20.

Dawes strikes me as the sort of player that won't even be on an AFL list in 4 years time. He's too limited as a footballer. I hope we keep 20 and draft another mid. Pedersen for a pick in the 40's should be enough to help out Mitch until Hulk saddles up in 12 months time.

I also want to really start making headway next year, but if our forward-line is still a tad limited for one more year I won't lose any sleep over it. Pick 20 will/should get you a potential A grade mid.

Suprised no one here has mentioned Josh Simpson.

He seems to have really slipped under the rader on DL and it expected to go slightly prior to 20. That said he could also slip as if he went under the radar at DL perhaps his gone under the radar of recruiters :P

Josh Simpson (WA – Mid/Fwd)

Height: 183cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 09/02/1994

Recruited from: East Fremantle

Style: Daniel Wells

Player comparison:

Range: 15-50

Profile: Simpson has been one of the more interesting prospects over the past few years moving from WA to SA in 2011 to make the state squad then back to WA this season. Simpson has great acceleration and on a wing can do some damage. Gets through traffic easily. Generally good ball user by both hand and foot and by foot is duel sided. Still has a very lean build and I expect him to always be more of an outside player but I have been encouraged in the past with his attack on the ball and on the man despite his lean build. Has talent and while I think he will be rated very differently from club to club I expect a few clubs to be very keen to get someone with his talents on their list.

Agree, Pedersen is a much better option I think. Cost much less and can fill the same role probably just as well IMO.

Our forward line has been basically disabled since Neita went, I can handle limited.

I tend to agree, but I won't be completely out of sorts if we do take gumby with 20.

To add to that, I have a feeling Kennedy will slip to late teens, maybe (hopefully) even our pick at 20.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
