The Free Agency/Trade/Draft Rumour File

Featured Replies

A mate who's friend is on  board of a golf club in the west tells me Goddard has already signed up with this golf club for next year.

Essendon are very keen as well - have put off contract talks with a few players:-

Dons' Goddard quandary

Any worth a look?

• Davey

• Gumbelton

• Hille

• Lonergan

• Dyson

• Prismall

• Slattery

• Wantsfrees (rumoured off to Port)

Another north player Ben Warren is a target of the dees.

lol I hope this one never leaves this thread.

I find it funny how the MFC went on about having a giant warchest, yet every player the media say we are linked to has been denied by either the MFC or the player.

I don't think I have seen any quoted reports yet about the MFC actually being into anyone.

Why would we tell anyone who we are into?????....Why would any player say any thing when trading does not start for a couple of weeks????

I didn't say we should. I just said that I find it interesting that we haven't while some other clubs/players have.

Was just told that Goddard is a done deal with the Bombers. We will see.

Heard that Neeld met up with Harry O. No idea if it's true and if so, what it actually means. But with Trav set to sign, Melbourne would surely be able to offer him a lot more $$

For what it's worth, I do not want O'Brien at Melbourne. I'd rather persist with guys like Strauss or Tynan, than an overrated, unaccountable and potentially overpaid player like Harry.

I would love him at the club; an All Australian, premiership player and only 25 years old yes please. Not only this but he is a leader and a great person who would have a positive influence on the group

The Collingwood head recruiter told my mate a story of how he got drafted by Collngwood. He had been overlooked in the national draft by all 16 clubs, not to be deterred Harry called all 16 clubs pleading for a chance to train with them and show he was deserving of a spot on their rookie list. The recruiter initially declined but after 4 or 5 more calls from O'Brien he said he could have a training spot but said he didn't guarantee anything. For the week or so of training O'Brien was the first one to each session and had to be asked to leave the gym at the end of the day. Collingwood obviously impressed, picked him up in the rookie draft only seconds later he received a call from Harry saying how thankful he was ensuring they wouldn't regret the decision. Supposedly it was the first time a player had ever called them first after being drafted.

He is a proven winner, something MFC is devoid of and clearly nothing to scoff at.

Speaking to one of my friends who works at the AFL as a writer this is what i can conjure up.

Angus Monfries has met with Port Adelaide officials and a four year deal was put in front of him. He looks certain to accept it.

Ricky Petterd held discussions with Collingwood today.

Travis Cloke set to sign with Collingwood for 5 years $800k a year. Fifth year based on performance.

Eseendon have made another big pitch for Goddard. Four year deal with $700 to $750k a year. Didn't get along with Watters.

Danyle Peace has had interest from a couple of Victorian clubs.

Apparently, we are the front runners ATM.

Troy Chaplin and Chris Knights are certain to pull on a Tiger jumper next year (though Melbourne is still intrested in Knights).

Andy Otten has had five clubs inquire about him. We are one of them.

Ben Jacobs obviously wants to return home.

Richmond are into Patrick Karnezis. We, along with a couple of clubs, are into him as well.

We are still heavily into Wellingham. Martin or Gysberts could be used as part of a trade with the Pies.

OK. The rumour posts that were hidden (and some of them are absolute stinkers) have been restored and some posts have been removed because they really don't add to this thread.

Posters are asked to remember that this thread is dedicated to former poster Chilliboy who really knew how to publish a quality rumour. Please aspire to that level when posting in future people.

If anyone needs a benchmark, dazzledavey36 is the clear clubhouse leader at this stage (but that doesn't mean you have to believe any of it  )

I envy how the Tigers are seemingly now the most appealing club for a borderline player to make his new home.

Anyone got an update on Moloney?

Moloney Picked Essendon as his preferd destination but rumours going around Port are willing to pay him a good sum :S

Rumour has it that this could be due to the success Hardwick has had with recycled players like Grigg, Houli and I Maric for example.

If you are up to it - you could collate them all in the OP... (I have that tone of voice where I am asking a question and my head is cocked slightly with my eyebrows raised...)

(Yes, it is a tone of voice...)

You're getting this direct from the Pennski file so don't forget where you first heard it.

Another Port Adelaide player (apart from Jacobs and Salopek who have already been mentioned in despatches) is really desperate to return home. He's a country lad who has had his share of injuries over the past few years but is very keen to get back to his own turf and have a crack at reinvigorating his career. That could lead him to the MFC. Who knows?

Jasper Pittard?

Simon Buckley back to us from the Pies. I heard this from a total [censored] Collingwood supporter, who tells me it's gonna happen

Ash Smith has re signed with the eagles for a further 2 years.

Also forgot to add but shannon byrnes will most likely be a dee next year. deal should be done by first week of free agency.

We are also gunning for Cam Pederson real hard.

This one makes sense if we are trying to get involved in the Caddy deal to North. Maybe we value him as a 3rd rounder North might want to package him up as an effective 2nd rounder - just all comes down tooooooo who is pre-pared to give a bit.

The Big Butcher. Played only 12 games and is 21.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
